About MeGreetings sellers! I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to own one of your fine items. It’s like you are offering me a key and all I have to do is walk through the door. Here is what I would like you, as the seller, and everyone to know about me.

Watching Items

Though I can only speak for myself, I will attempt to explain why I watch items, from my perspective as a buyer and possibly other buyers in the eBay community. I must say that it is never my intention to annoy or insult a seller by watching a particular item. Sometimes I may bid on or buy the item and sometimes I end up taking no action at all. I am aware that sellers can see how many people are watching their item(s) but they cannot see the usernames. What I would like to explain is that I may be interested in a certain item that is being listed by multiple sellers. There are many factors to consider, especially if the buyer is very responsible and cares about each transaction he or she makes.

First and foremost, I have to say and admit that I use it to "bookmark" an item that may have caught my eye and I want to examine more closely. Possibly at a later time. I am a busy person, as I'm sure we all are. Perhaps the auction is ending at a time when I will be present at auction end, which of course is ideal, unless you use a sniping program. I also monitor bidding activity, for example, on an auction that has no BIN option. I will concentrate on an auction with the fewest amount of bidders if I don't feel like competing with a lot of other bidders. Now if there are multiple auctions running for an item I am interested in, since I monitor the bidding activity, I need some way of keeping track of the auctions. So I watch the items. The same item on four different auctions being run by four different sellers. Look at it that way. You are not the only one. It's the item we are interested in. Just as you might go to two or more actual stores that has the same item you are looking for. You might be bargain hunting or doing other comparisons. It is the same concept here.

If you are a seller who has bidders nibbling away at the current bid price just to take the lead even though there is still three days until the auction ends, I will probably avoid that auction. This process lasts the duration of the auction, so I have to watch it to see who, on which auctions, are doing this so I can avoid it. I think people constantly trying to take the lead, even though the end of the auction is nowhere near, is ridiculous. I feel even that buyers could be possibly winning items a bit cheaper if they would just leave it alone until near the end of the auction. Then enter a proxy or start bidding.

Yes, the price comparisons as mentioned earlier. But I take into consideration the S/H charges as well. I read the auction page thoroughly. I am not just out to find the cheapest/best deal on a particular item that I might be watching. Reading the auction page gives me an idea of what kind of seller I might be dealing with. Then I read the sellers FB. Not just received, but left for other as well.

I will probably pick the seller with the best FB rating. I don't think I am out of line for doing that. I will pick the seller with a better reputation and FB rating even if the item is more expensive on that particular auction. Now if the seller has a lot of negs, I look further to see if it was newbies that left the negs instead of contacting the seller first if he or she had a question or was unhappy with the transaction or just used it as retaliation against the seller. In that case, I will know that the seller is good, but just had some bad/DB bidders.

It may take me a while to look over and consider all this information, which I might be doing while the item is on the watched list. Not to mention that I know once I place a bid or BIN, I have entered into a contract with the seller. This might vary from person to person, but I am careful and cautions of what I do before I do it. I don't mean discredit to the seller, but I am looking out for my own benefit and best interest. I don't proceed unless I know I really want the item, and of course, can pay for it.

 Communication

Positive Feedback Received I completely agree with the request of many sellers that if there is any uncertainty at all about an auction listing, a potential bidder should ask the seller a question(s) first before bidding. This will avoid an unwanted transaction and possible negative or retaliatory feedback thereafter.

I will send the seller a message when I receive the item, as a simple notification that I have received the item and am satisfied with the transaction. At this point, I will already have left feedback for the seller and the seller may do so in return, if desired.

 Bidding

Positive Feedback Received I read all auction pages thoroughly and am interested in following the requests of the seller. I have never had a problem while bidding or buying in an auction and don’t ever plan to. There are two buttons that are on auction pages. Place Bid/Buy It Now and Confirm Bid/Commit to Buy. I never go past the first one unless I am completely confident that I want the item and am willing to pay the price for it.

Payment

Positive Feedback Received I WILL ALWAYS pay for auctions I have won. I ALWAYS make sure I have the money to back up what I bid for on eBay or I don't bid at all.

Positive Feedback Received I ALWAYS PAY INSTANTLY. Mainly through PayPal, instant transfer from a bank account or directly with a credit card if the seller has their own check-out system. I have also mailed personal checks and money orders on rare occasion.

   Feedback

Positive Feedback Received I WILL NEVER leave negative feedback for no good reason! It is very inappropriate when newbies, in just a minute’s time, thrash the rating of a seller who has hundreds and thousands of positive feedback that took years to accumulate. It would take a miraculous event, such as a UFO landing in my yard or getting hit by lightining in the afternoon here in Hawaii, for me to not pay for an auction that I have won or to leave negative feedback for something ridiculous that a simple message to the seller could have resolved.

It is too easy for people to do this to great sellers. It is also easy, newbies, to communicate through a My eBay Message or even an e-mail or and that is always what I do in the rare event that there is a problem when I receive an item.

Leaving feedback is a voluntary opportunity to factually rate the overall experience of a transaction. Feedback is not communication. Although leaving feedback upon receiving an item is optional, I feel that it is important for both parties, as feedback is a reflection of a member’s trustworthiness and reliability in the eBay community. This is something that we all need to be aware of and informed of, both buyers and sellers alike, before any transaction takes place.

As the buyer, I feel that I should be the one to leave feedback first, after receiving the item and am satisfied with the transaction. I will sometimes leave feedback immediately after winning and paying for an item if the seller has a great feedback rating. Common sense tells me to do so. If a seller has a long history of great transactions, why would there be a cause for concern about a problem arising later?

Sellers that I've had transactions with have always expressed their concern to me about the satisfaction of their buyers, along with receiving positive and accurate feedback. This tells me that whether or not I leave positive feedback before or after receiving the item, the seller will try to resolve any issue, should there be one later, if I simply send a message notifying him or her that there is a problem. Most sellers who value their business and reputation will jump at the opportunity to make a transaction right if they are made aware of a problem and are given a chance to fix it.

I use the follow-up to feedback left option if I cannot fit a positive feedback comment on the original feedback line. I also use follow-up feedback to further commend a seller. As mentioned above, there are occasions when I leave positive feedback before receiving the item. After the item is received, I might then leave a follow-up feedback comment to complement the seller for fast shipping or great packaging.

About MeI have had just two jobs. I started my first job when I was nine years old. I left when I was 19. It paid well enough for a teenager, but I left because I was getting older. My second and current job, I started right after when I was 19 and I still have it today. I’ve had my current job in the security industry for ten years. This is where the knowledge and inspiration for My Guides came from.

Positive Feedback Received I bought my first PC in 2006 specifically to access e-mail and eBay conveniently from home. Now I can pay for your auctions even faster. There was a time that I was going to an internet cafe regularly to use the computers there to access eBay. That was my first computer; I’ve never had one before that. I walked out of CompUSA with that computer without paying a dime using a $2,800 instant credit approval from the store because of 725.

Positive Feedback Received I just bought my second PC at Best Buy on April 13, 2009, which was a replacement PC. I walked out of Best Buy with that computer without paying a dime using a $3,600 instant credit approval from the store.

Positive Feedback Received In summary, where I’m going with this and what I would like sellers to know about me is when you see bidrisen on your auction, feel confident. You’ll get your money... and great feedback too.

 Take Care,

  Lance
