You need two things to be successful in reaching your fitness goals.
CONSISTENCY & DISIPLINE!
Consistency with your diet and your workouts. You can't eat like crap and workout once a week and expect to see results. You need to eat cleaner. Does this mean never eating McDonalds no, but it does mean not eating it more than once or twice a month and not eating 3 Big Macs in one sitting. Does it mean you need to eat like a rabbit all the time either, no but you've got to eat some vegetables and fruit every day.
Discipline means eating that two hundredth chicken breast when you're running late instead of going to the vending machine. You have to work out even when you don't feel like it, that's discipline.
Now for the nutritional supplements. The name says it all, supplement. They are designed to supplement your already existing diet. Unless your wealthy not many people can afford to eat three steaks and three chicken breast a day every day. So, replace a few of those meals with a good tasting protein shake (yes there are ones out there that don't taste like glue).
Here is a good breakdown of what to take.
1. A multi-vitamin even if you eat the "perfect" diet you will still come up short. We sell them, but you can pick some up at a local drug store.
2. BCAAs describe the names of three of the eight essential amino acids needed to make protein. Branched chain amino acids are used for a number of reasons such as increasing endurance, preventing muscle protein breakdown, increasing energy levels, decreasing fatigue, improving mental performance, improving immune system function, and improving post-exercise recovery (i.e., soreness). Research is also being concluded on how BCAA supplementation assists severe trauma patients in healing faster. New studies have shown it to be a better post workout supplement when ingested with the right amount of carbs than any other supplement, including complete protein. BCAAs are also very good for pre-contest bodybuilders, martial artist, wrestlers or anyone that makes weight to compete. Plus with protein prices where they are right now, they are cheap!
3. Protein, what builds muscle? Protein! If you want to gain muscle or lose fat you have to eat enough protein.
4. Glutamine an amino acid that assist in protein synthesis and aids in muscle recovery. You don't build muscle while lifting you build it while repairing after the workout. Most your protein shakes have glutamine in them. So make sure you read the label this way your killing two birds with one stone.
This is the nutritional foundation. Ask any athlete and they will tell you before they spend money on an NO or anabolic supplement they take the four supplements listed above.
