I have a long connection with the UK Shetland pony.
My Great, Great, Great Grandfather, John McRorie, worked and lived at the Old Mounkland Mines in Lanark, Scotland. My Great Grandfather, James Stewart McRorie, also worked in the Old Mounkland Mines in Scotland, then moved to Bay City, Michigan, to work in the coal mines there. But the reason i became involved with Personal Ponies, is my Grandfather, Charles Henry McRorie. He was a teacher, a farmer, and a child with a great disability. At the age of 2 years old, while following his older sibling to the store, he sat on the train track and was run over by the train. This resulted in the loss of both feet. By the time the doctor arrived at the tracks, he was pronounced dead. The story goes on that a Healing Lady was there with her pony and cart and said, "By God, that boy is not dead!" and swooped him up. She took him home and with love, nursed him back to health. My Grandfather was often seen carried around on a small pony until he went back to live with his family.
