| Here is my rant about my experience with ebay:
I will no longer be selling my work through ebay. There are way too many listings and I can't compete with artists in 3rd world countries who are selling their paintings for almost nothing. If I want my work to show up in the first 15 pages of painting listings, I have to "feature" my listing for $20. Then many buyers here don't want to spend more than $40 for an original painting. So I ended up basically giving away numerous paintings (after I paid all the fees and all the paypal deductions were subtracted). I read on some message boards that a lot of artists noticed that sales tanked at ebay in late '05, so I guess I'm not the only one with a negative ebay experience. And then artists here have to compete with certain artists here who tell buyers that their work sells for outrageous prices in galleries. Well you know what? If someone is selling their paintings through galleries for thousands of dollars, why would they sell their work on ebay for $200? And if they did, the gallery would drop them in a second! There's no way a gallery would allow its artists to do that.
My other issue was a recent purchase I made. The seller was clearly misleading about what he was selling. And when I requested a refund, his customer service was horrible! So then I was in a quandry. I KNEW if I left him negative feedback, that he would leave me negative feedbackin return. I suddenly realized that ebay is set up in a manner that lets people believe they know who they're dealing with because they can read all this feedback. The problem is that if a person has a bad experience and wants to warn others about it, they end up shooting themselves in the foot and having their own good name ruined. I saw it with this particular person- people left neutral or positive feedback ratings for him and then complained in the comments that they learned a lesson- because they didn't want to have this guy turn around and give them negative feedback. So unless you read through all the feedback comments, on the surface his feedback rating looks just fine. And who do you go to at ebay to complain? From what I've heard, they don't even investigate incidences of stolen property being sold here, so I don't expect to have them do anything about this. |

| I'm furious that I spent so much time and money building a business here and conducting my business in a professional manner, only to have it ruined by someone else's fraudulent and misleading business practices and horrible customer service.
So...I will not be doing business here anymore.
UPDATE 9/09:
OK, I'm taking a brief hiatus from my eBay strike to sell my old software because this is probably the best place to do that. I'm glad that eBay has changed their policy regarding feedback, but I'm not sure it solves all the problems. I still won't sell my art and crafts here anymore though. Etsy is MUCH better! |

Note: Anonymous names may appear more than once and may represent different bidders.
