What the Heck is BodhiGlass Anyway?BodhiGlass is short for Bodhisattva Glassworks, and consists of me, Bodhi Boy, and my glass girl, ZipZap. We live and play in our studio hideaway in Heptown, near Hipsterville, and not far from Groovy City. We like old jazz, good whiskey, baudy lyrics and....aw heck... ...we like just about everything. |

What the Heck Kind of Fool Goes Around Calling Himself Bodhi Boy Anyway?Well, Bodhi Boy has tried a lot of things, and he's pretty good at many of them. He's too talented and has way too short an attention span to work at a desk job (which he did on and off for more years than he likes to think of.) But if he's so smart, why ain't he rich? Maybe, thinks Bodhi Boy, maybe making silly but charming, beautifully crafted, pop-culture icons in glass will pay off...I mean, you're looking at them aren't you? And you probably want them (you know you do.) You really should get some....why wait? Bodhi Boy could get out of this racket at any time, and if you don't get them now you may regret it the rest of your life. So sit down, pour yourself a drink, and give in to your urge to proudly wear one of my fabulous flameworked* glass beads.*[flameworking, if you don't know, is an ancient technique of forming glass in the flame of a torch. Rods of colored glass are heated until just molten, and then dabbed, poked and otherwise sculpted. If, while dabbing, poking, etc., the glass is wrapped around a metal rod coated with clay and graphite, when the glass has cooled the rod can be removed, leaving a hole through the glass and voila! You have a bead.] |
Some of the More Interesting Things Out There (i.e., these are a few of my favorite links): Link #1: Shag (Josh Agle), the amusingly retro-hip artist. You gotta know this guy... Link #2: Caitlin Hyde Design (wow, can this gal make beads!) Link #3: Munktiki! These guys make really, really great tiki mugs. Link #4: Coop. This artist is funny and nasty and if you don't like that, then what the hell are you doing here? Link #5: Mark Ryden, another terrific artist who will amaze you even as he creeps you out a little bit...and that's a good thing. Link #6: Tiki News, a magazine for tikiphiles about everything tiki, published by the world-renowned tikimeister, Otto Von Stroheim. Link #7: The Corning Museum of Glass (check out The Studio, a great place to learn about making glass.) |
