who is bohobetty anyway?
This is always one of the first questions I get . . . from customers who buy from me on eBay . . . strangers who ask for my business card. . . even friends who have known me for years . . . and then they all look at me with wonderment and great expectation. I think I always let them down. You see, the truth is, Betty isn't anyone. It's not my name . . . and to my knowledge, I've never had any relatives or role models named Betty. For years I did business under my own name as Vintageshelly, but for what ever reason, people just can't remember the name Shelly . . . they insist on calling me Sherry, Sheila, Cheryl . . . anything but Shelly. So just before my 40th birthday (which obviously arrived prematurely since anyone whose ever met me can clearly see that I can't be any older than 25!),in anticipation of an inevitable midlife crisis, I decided to make some changes so that my eBay 'persona' would more closely mirror my peronality. Now don't be worried . . . I will always strive to keep the quality of my merchandise and my customer service as high as possible. What will be different is that by using someone else's name, I hope to show a little bit more of myself. So in a way, Betty is me, inside anyway . . . and it's kind of catchy too . . . don't you think?
what do you sell & where do you get it?
I love vintage linens and have collected them for years. Like many of you, I just can't resist the quirky patterns of the printed pieces from the 1940's or the elegant hand-embroidered designs of antique Madeira. Each week I travel to estates throughout Georgia--often sorting through huge piles of linens and fabric--to find the most interesting and beautiful pieces. A couple of times a year I travel to other parts of the country to see what I can find elsewhere (the grass is always greener you know!). I usually offer a pretty eclectic assortment of vintage items--gorgeous antique Madeira, colorful hand-embroidered pillowcases, runners & tablecloths, whimsical 40's printed tablecloths, bold vintage hankies, antique lace trim, and charming vintage fabrics. While textiles are my area of expertise, there are lots of other things that I just can't walk by when I'm out shopping for inventory. To tell you the truth, I have a really hard time passing up anything with fruit, veggies, or big cabbage roses on it. Just to give you an idea, however, I often list vintage ladies clothing (I seem to be especially fond of old evening dresses) and accessories like flower covered vintage hats, designer scarves in geometric & floral prints, glittering beaded purses and kitchy vintage jewelry.
i'm tired of reading about you . . . what should I do now?
My little sister is an extremely talented artist! She creates pottery pieces, clocks and fantastic original paintings inspired by vintage photos. Here is a link to her auctions and some pics of some of her paintings: |
