BRENDA YORK'S PAINTINGS One of my latest paintings! I love to paint. For as long as I can remember, I have always made paintings. I’ve worked in watercolor and acrylic but oil paint is my medium of choice. I love the smell, the way it moves on the canvas and the stains it leaves on my fingers. I was lucky enough to study Art in college, earning a Bachelor of Fine Art degree. After college, I continued my art training with artists such as Stanley Goldstein, Marla Frazee, Reed Cardwell and others. One of my best teachers has been the practice of Daily Painting. I am committed to doing a small painting almost every day; sometimes a study for a larger piece and sometimes a finished small format painting. The work of completing a painting every day has quickly pushed me further in the technical aspects of paint application, allowing more time to focus on that fuzzy concept of "inspiration". Inspiration. Where does it come from? A scene in a movie, the view out my studio window, a photograph, colors in a person’s clothes, a song, a story or, as in some of these pieces, an emotional experience that had no way out of my head but into a painting. Most of my work is narrative; paintings that tell a story. My hope is that my paintings will draw you in and you will find your own story there.
