| It always made sense to me to be a buyer on eBay first, then work on a selling strategy. It is my goal to be the best customer I can be. I pay super fast for that reason. Furthermore, I know what great sellers do (and don't do!). I have purchased items from some of the best merchants on eBay. Those are my mentors, the role models I will follow in order to be the best I can be when I step up my selling numbers. | FEEDBACK MATTERS. Recently, I read some sellers' concerns about how eBay changed policy on buyer and seller feedback. Even though it's true that sellers can no longer leave negative feedback ratings for buyers, feedback rating is still one of the best ways to get an idea of how a seller or buyer performs.
I read feedback not only for the positive feedback but also to see how a seller handles the unusual or first-time negative rating from a customer. For instance, does the seller get irate and write an angry reply--even if the buyer is wrong or behaves poorly? Or, does the seller keep his or her cool and just give the facts? Or, does the seller show his understanding that not all people see something the same way? I prefer the seller with a level head, one who treats all customers with respect--even when the buyer is off the mark about something or fails to follow instructions. PERFECT UNDERSTANDING: Of course it has to be painful losing a perfect 100% rating. I would feel it, too. For many, it's a lot like losing a perfect 4.0 GPA, never to get it back (or losing other things important to us in life :( Certainly, a negative, bad mark has a sting; however, it happens to even the best of us. I always leave feedback fairly and appreciate when a seller takes time to properly rate my performance. I've never felt it necessary to leave a negative score because my sellers, in those rare times when something needed correcting, have resolved any problem admirably through mature communications. Negative feedback is only valid, in my opinion, AFTER communicating and everything else has been tried, and the problem remains. I hope to remain at a 100% rating even after I expand to selling, though I am not naive. Every buyer has right to an opinion. Use feedback responsibly I ask. Feedback helps keep eBay a safer place for all of us.
ANOTHER GOOD MEASURE OF A SELLER: The other way to detect a top-notch seller is how well the item description is written. In particular, I really like getting more of the important details--but I don't care to dig through poorly worded, misspelled, cluttered-looking or tricky, misleading disclaimers. Make it easy for me to shop with you, and I will. I plan to make it pleasant for my customers to shop and, hopefully, we will continue a great journey together.
