Rich Bottles Jr. (aka: captainrich)

Western PA/Pittsburgh Area Token Collector

Although I now live in another state, my roots are in the Pittsburgh area and that’s where my collecting interests are concentrated. I collect all types of tokens from the western Pennsylvania counties of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Lawrence, including “lucky” encased coins.
If you’ve got any interesting, unusual or rare Pittsburgh area tokens that you’re not planning to post on eBay, I’d welcome the opportunity to correspond with you about them. And if you are planning on posting any such tokens, I’d also like to hear about it so that I can get in on the action.
One area that I’m especially interested in are the aluminum tokens used in schools for lunches, such as the 25mm-sized tokens issued by the Rieck-McJunkin Dairy Co. or any “5-cent” 27mm-sized tokens from the following Pittsburgh schools: Business School; Carrick; Fifth Ave; Gladstone; Knoxville; Langley; Latimer; Oliver; Peabody; Perry; South Hills; or South Side. These are considered as “maverick” tokens, since the token inscriptions do not include the name of the city. A couple of other Pittsburgh mavericks I'm interested in include Mutual Supply Co. coal scrip and Independent Brewing Co. (IND BRG CO) 'Good For' trade tokens.

I’m also a member of the Pennsylvania Area Token Collectors Organization (PATCO) and help out with the newsletter from time to time. If you’re interested in the club, just send me an email and I’ll tell you more about it.
Tip for new collectors, courtesy of your friends at PATCO: Those 1922 Pittsburgh Railways Co. streetcar tokens that are consistently posted on eBay have not increased in value since the day they were issued. These fare tokens were purchased for a nickel each back in 1922 and are not worth much more than that today.

Also, I’m especially proud of my feedback as both a buyer and a seller during the short time I’ve been a member of this fine eBay community. Be sure to check them out, you won’t be sorry you did (only a little jealous)...

Neutral: He’s okay I guess. I mean, he did pay and everything on time. And sending me flowers at the end of the transaction was nice, I guess.
