In my current work, I use collage and mixed media to explore the phenomena of creating below the threshold of consciousness. To achieve this, it is necessary to produce spontaneously and intuitively, with no particular vision of what the outcome will be. Surrounding myself with acrylic colors, prepared papers, found objects and digital imagery, I begin my adventure. My process involves, developing several paintings side by side, allowing me to experiment and play.
Colors speak to me and I let them guide me as I goes along. My medium of choice is acrylic but I like using oil sticks from time to time. The papers I gather, come from a variety of sources, and are stained, painted or stamped by hand so each piece is unique. The digital images I use are photographs that I take of natural textures, objects, debris and even some of my own artwork. These papers and images, along with other recycled objects such as tree bark, stones, wallpaper or fabric, are chosen because they are inspiring to me.
With a visceral method of creating, I communicate bold and powerful expressions of my thoughts, feelings, visions and experiences. The resulting compositions often have, large sections of layered colors, vigorous movement and tactile texture. The abstract style is modern and contemporary in design. The size range is from intimate miniatures to larger commanding canvases.
Art is both an exhilarating and soothing escape. It fulfills my need to execute and provides me much delight, balance and harmony. I hope to evoke a bit of the same emotions when someone looks at one of my pieces…
