About the
Artist
Born
in Connecticut in 1963 daughter of a Navy Family. I
lived in many places, Virginia, South Carolina, Florida,
Hawaii and now North Carolina. Grew up always fond of
art and art projects. I gave up my "normal" life in 1994
to pursue my dream of becoming an artist. I owned a
illustration studio for many years and enjoyed it very
much. In 2000 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The
next 2 years I fought to survive. I started to paint in
2002. In 2003 I decided to start painting full time.
Not only would I survive I was going to grow. And the
artwork began.

About the Art
When I first started to paint I painted on canvas. I didn't feel right. I wanted to include my passion for recycling. I feel our society needs to be more creative with the tons of material that end up in our dumps. I found wood and lots of it. To me, each piece has a spirit in it. I want to bring it back
to life. Much like my art does for me. I gather wood from my neighborhood before it makes it to the dump. I clean it, cut and sand it. During this process I let each piece "speak" to me. I then sketch out the picture using the grain of the wood as a guide. I apply washes of color to the wood, layering each without covering up all the grain. I want the true beauty of the wood to show through in some places. When complete each
painting is then poly coated several times sanding between each coat. Each
piece having been rescued and nurtured is now a beautiful work of art.

All
paintings are one-of-a-
kind
and would make a great gift idea for
those who
enjoy folk art, collect mermaid or fantasy items or for
those that
simply want to indulge in something of a
whimsical
nature.
