my broadway debut
The Early Show on CBS aired a special series, "My Broadway Debut," in advance of Broadway's 60th Tony Awards. The series ran through Friday, June 2, with stars of hit Broadway musicals participating every day.
The series was a theatrical competition, which featured 10 performers (5 male/5 female) acting in live auditions: One pair, each day for five days, performed LIVE alongside a Broadway actor or actress, currently appearing in one of the featured Broadway musicals: Rent, Hairspray, Chicago, The Wedding Singer, and Avenue Q.
Each segment ended by introducing memorabilia from the show that is part of an eBay auction benefiting Broadway Cares.
At the end of the week, viewers were asked to go online to vote for their favorite male and female finalists. The winners, Andrew Arrington of the University of Michigan and Brianna Horne of Wagner College, were revealed Monday, June 5, and performed a song from irty Rotten Scoundrelson The Early Show before heading off for a very special Broadway debut. They appeared in a dance number in "Scoundrels" on Tuesday night, June 6, and afterwards were treated to a champagne toast by Jonathan Pryce, Lucie Arnaz and Liza Minnelli.
The auction will run through the upcoming TONY awards, which will be broadcast on CBS, Sunday, June 11.
