More Than Just Firewood
The name came about when I started selling my chainsaw carvings on Ebay. After selling carvings for awhile, I decided to try some of my oil paintings on unique and vintage items, so the name seemed appropriate still.
I've been doing wildlife paintings since the early 80's, and use to go to numerous art shows during the year. As times changed, I got away from my artwork for awhile, then got back into it about 9 years ago.
Several years ago I dislocated my elbow, so now I don't get to carve nearly as much as I would like, so most of the time it's the paintings. Now that my new studio is built I hope to be able to devote more time to my creations.
Then we also starting adding a large addition (2000 sq. ft.) to our home. Needed more room to so we didn't have to stack the 13 grandchildren when everyone showed up at the same time. Of course there are several people in my family that are in construction, and I was suppose to have all this help. Well, we all know how that goes. So after almost 3 years, my "addition" is almost done.
I've taken the back deck, and turned it into a power carving studio. (Hubby isn't thrilled, but, getting more use to it.) My latest creation for our home is my hall tree. An 8 ft. tall 2 in slab of a black walnut tree with the bark on the edges. I cut a "knot hole" in the tree, carved leaves all the way around it. Then took mini lights and put them behind the leaves and a blue mirror to cover the back of the hole. There's a wood spirit carved and added to the top to watch over our home. I want to put antique hooks on it, but my husband says that no one is going to be allowed to hang anything on it. Oh well, it does make for a unique hall tree. |
