WaterResearchUSA.com is a division of American Pride Distributors owned and operated by me Andy Whitehead. Every machine we build is backed by the 13+ years I spent as a contract cleaner. Our theme is FLOW, after 13 years of experimenting and building equipment nothing has increased profits more than increasing the flow of our cleaning systems. And actually decreasing the pressure. The impact of increased water flow is so powerful. We've hired guys in our own cleaning business that were used to 4-5GPM and could not imagine the difference until they were actually behind a gun on one of my systems.
To date the biggest system I have built is a 100 horsepower 2 man 16 GPM @ 3000 PSI per man I used 4, 25HP Kholer engines and 8 GPM pumps. Also for super cleaning all the engines could be run together producing 32 GPM for one man. We used that system in a box van for 5 or so years and it was a wonder to see in action!
It's my belief that nothing is worse than trying to make a living with inferior equipment. Pressure washing daily is hard work, no one will deny that and working on equipment that has failed is not the preferred way to spend your day. I strive to design each machine in a cost effective way. But at the same time build it with quality components so that if it were me out there working I would be confident my machine woud carry me through the day.
A little history.
I started pressure washing 13 plus years ago by purchasing my first 5 GPM unit. I purchased two other pressure washers and was unhappy with some of the problems I had with them that could have been prevented. I decided to build my own pressure washers- then I would know what I had and what I could depend on.
In those days I mostly worked alone and I enjoyed the challenge, but one man can only accomplish so much. I began to focus on my equipment- trying to make it more productive. Surely investing in equipment would cost less than hiring more people. I had some ideas and contacted some industry leaders. They said the ideas would not work. I believed them for awhile but I had to know for myself!
Instead of hiring employees, I started buying everything on the market that I thought would increase production, even if it saved 5 minutes per job, figuring the money I spent would be offset by the production increase. I had some increases but only marginal.
My first machine was a 5 GPM hot water pressure washer, my second a 4 GPM cold water pressure washer. I had them both on a trailer, using the 5 GPM the most. One day in the middle of cleaning a driveway the unit quit working and I had to finish with the 4 GPM pressure washer. I was amazed at how slow it seemed to clean and rinse. After all, it was just one GPM difference, but that was a 25% decrease in production!
Then I discovered higher flow pumps. I built a 24 hp 8.7 GPM@3000 PSI pressure washer. I was blown away by the increase in production. Tips I had been using for chemical injection, I could now use for powerful rinsing. I could actually rinse off houses straight out of my gun’s ¼” coupler. There is no replacement for high flow when trying to clean something high with a zero tip. Before, impact was lost over 10ft, now I was removing things 20 ft plus from the tip.
Then one day I had an idea: What if two pressure washers could be run together, doubling the flow? I tried many scenarios and finally achieved success. I never looked back! Not only did I have higher flow, increasing production, I could actually lower the pressure and accomplish the same amount of work, decreasing the amount of stress on me holding the gun all day. Also, I had the slow pressure build of the flow actuated unloader- no full pressure explosion as soon as the gun was triggered, which was enough to blow a man off a ladder at 8 GPM plus.
I continued experimenting in every area that affected the quality, production and ease of accomplishing my work. I encountered many problems along the way. But I believe there is a solution to every problem. And there is, but it may be expensive!
I spent thousands on things that did not work and some that did! Keeping in mind the goal: “The maximum production without quality loss one man can accomplish through machinery and fair human power.”
I cleaned houses for a local construction company, cleaning garage, drive, siding and soffit, deck, etc. When I started, the average house took me 2.5 hours working alone. After many equipment upgrades, I could clean the average house in about an hour. This was a 250% increase in production!
I hired employees eventually, (there is only so much experimenting you can do if you do all the work yourself), and began designing two-man pressure washers. A new set of problems appeared, but once again they could be solved. Bigger hoses for max flow, flow meter testing everything- inlet water and high pressure, eliminating swivels that would kill pressure, guns that would choke the life out of flow even though they had a pretty good flow rating. Every restriction must be eliminated to the max to have high flow and high pressure present at the same time.
Every pressure washer system I built was smaller in size but more powerful than the one before. I had another goal all along- to one day offer a system to the pressure washing contractor trying to make a living that would separate them from the ones just making extra money, undercutting everything. Price is a factor in some markets, quality in others and vice versa, but nothing can replace speed without quality loss. This allows you to compete in both areas. That is what you get in a system that is designed from the ground up to provide maximum inlet and outlet flow at a good sustainable pressure.
If the flow and pressure of a pressure washer were compared to a car, pressure would be the engine and flow the transmission, which gear would you want to run in? 1st or 5th? Neither! You want to be in the gear that gets the job done the quickest. That is what you get in the Mediator- with enough variables to conquer most problems. It is the cost effective answer to an age old question: How can I do this better and faster?! I think you’ll like it! |
