Hi, my name is Steve Dawson, and as you can probably tell by my ebay id, I am a big fan of San Diego Charger Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Fouts. I was born and raised in San Diego, and grew up idolizing the Chargers and Padres, along with Nolan Ryan and Pete Rose. I can still remember listening to Dick Enberg and Don Drysdale broadcast the California Angels games on the radio, and wishing I could be at the games when Ryan was pitching. Since I was about 13-14 years old at the time, I couldn't go by myself, and my parents felt that the 100 mile drive was a bit long for a baseball game. We did, however, go to many Padres games as I was growing up. My fondest memories are of going to see the Padres in 1975 and 1976 when Randy Jones (Cy Young Award winner in 1976) was pitching. He had the entire city wrapped in his fingers at that time. |
I started collecting cards seriously in 1975, buying cards through the mail from Larry Fritsch Cards. Then about 1979, I began going to card shows in the San Diego/Anaheim CA area. I amassed a sizable collection of cards, including all Topps baseball sets from 1970 to 1984, the 1953 and 1955 Topps baseball sets, and many other 1950s/1960s cards of hall of famers. I also had all the T206 hall of famer cards, and misc other cards from the 1800s on up. Then in 1985, I joined the US Air Force. About 1989, I began selling off my collection, and only kept cards of San Diego players, Nolan Ryan (my favorite baseball player of all time) and Pete Rose. I now collect cards and memorabilia dealing with all San Diego professional sports teams, to include the AFL/NFL Chargers, MLB (and PCL) Padres, NBA Rockets and Clippers, ABA Conquistadors and Sails, WHL Gulls, WHA Mariners, and NASL/MISL Jaws and Sockers. My main interests lie in cards, media guides, team photos, yearbooks and game used jerseys, although I am also interested in any other memorabilia related to these teams.
In 2003 I re-expanded my collecting interests. Now, in addition to San Diego sports memorabilia, I also collect pre-WW2 HOFers and post-WW2 HOFer rookie cards. Many of my PSA-graded cards are listed on the PSA Set Registry under my name. I also still collect Nolan Ryan cards, with the focus being on PSA 9s and 10s. I joined ebay in mid-2000 and have found it to be an enormous help in keeping my collection going. I have had many fun dealings with the great collectors and dealers I have had the pleasure of dealing with.
