Cherry Mountain Products
is owned by Lana and Martin Cherry, parents of three and grandparents of ten. We relocated to the beautiful Black Hills from The Hill Country of Texas. Growing old together and having the freedom to travel has been our goal for retirement. This business was inspired by that dream. It will allow us the freedom to grow old working together, in this beautiful gulch in the Black Hills National Forest of South Dakota.
Cherry Mountain Products is located in Lead just two miles up the road from the extraordinary little town of Deadwood. Deadwood is a quiet little town where you can stroll down main street knowing that you are walking in the footsteps of the legendary Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane and so many others, like Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders, whom were regular visitors to our small town, when the best mode of travel in the region was horseback, stagecoach or the covered wagon. Deadwood is a quaint small town, where the most famous stars can stroll down Main Street without being mobbed. A place you can visit where you will never meet a stranger. Thousands of visitors come every year to snow ski, snowmobile, hike, camp, and ice fish in the winter. You can rent a houseboat for a summer fishing adventure on a beautiful mountain lake surrounded by the Black Hills National Forest, where you can swim, water ski, ride the wind in a hang glider or a hot air balloon. Take a helicopter tour of Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, or a leisurely drive through Custer State Park where buffalo roam in herds of a thousand or more along with wild burros, prairie dogs, elk, antelope, whitetail deer and mountain lions. Visit Devils Tower, or take a tour of the Mammoth site in Hot Springs, all within a short drive from Deadwood through some of the most beautiful scenery in the country.
The Gold Rush Byway
The Gold Rush Byway denotes the discovery of gold in the Black Hills of South Dakota in 1874. When the army stopped enforcing the treaty reserving the Black Hills for the Sioux Indians, miners began to pour into the gold regions. Men and women traveled months to find these gold laden hills that they only before, had found in their dreams. With tents set up through the gulch, people began filing their gold claims. A wild and lawless land became what we now know as Deadwood. Tent lined streets turned into one of the most visited places in the country. You can take a tour of The Homestake Gold Mine, located in Lead, just two miles from Deadwood.
If you would rather stay in town, there are a lot of things to see, and places to visit. Make sure you bring your lucky charm. Deadwood is also known for its casinos. You have sites to see during the day and casinos to win at after the sun goes down. You can take your pick. Try your luck at the slots, or maybe play a game of poker or a few hands of blackjack. If you like to gamble, Deadwood is the place to be. You can walk from the top of Main Street to the bottom of Main in 10 minutes. If you take your time you can just stop in at every Casino or Saloon and relax and enjoy the slow pace. You never know, you may hit a big one. (In January of 2005, a woman put three quarters in a progressive slot machine and won over eight hundred thousand dollars!) Do you believe in miracles? She does! If you have a chance to see these beautiful Hills, take the time to explore, you will have an unforgettable time!
