I live about 25 minutes West of the St. Louis Airport and welcome fellow woodworkers into our shop. Everyone is welcome to drop by, chat, purchase wood or pickup their auction to save on shipping charges.
I am a small part-time micro-business, working out of my garage whenever I get the chance. It all started over 10 years ago when a friend introduced me to pen making. I am a Rockwell Automation Automation Specialist and travel the United States and when I started making pens I started visiting wood stores everywhere and learning about the many varieties of wood and how people used them. Before I knew it I was recommending and brokering wood.
I really enjoy the wood and I enjoy providing it to others. I love watching my children grow up with it, too. Jessica is my oldest and worked, managing the wood business. She's married now with a daughter. Darick took over and ran packaging and listings but has moved on and out to new jobs and school. Blaik and Jacob are currently running packaging and Blaik has started listing items.
As the kids get old enough I get to teach them how to use the wood in a variety of applications, including the lathe. This lets them become familiar with the wood and it's different characteristics. In fact, Blaik is now listing some very nice barrettes that he produces in the shop.
I have a website, www.chitswood.com, that I try to update twice a year. I wanted to open a store but the reality is there isn't enough time. However, there is a lot of good technical data available, links, galleries, etc. In fact, I collect pictures of wood items and try to get them into the galleries. People build such fantastic things and I like to share there efforts.
I do receive a lot of email, and try to answer them all personally. Though I believe I lose some emails, mainly because someone will contact me about an email that I didn't get. I think I lose stuff to spam filters, or some other 'black hole' in the system. If you have questions or comments I will always answer them in the order I read them.
In the meantime, ALWAYS CUT SAFE! and RESPIRATE!
At your service,
Chit
