I love sculpting the big stuff, but a move to the Austin, Texas area a few years ago, where the demand for commercial sculptors is not what it is in L.A., has encouraged me to try something different. I have been working with polymer clay for around 11 years and it is a versatile, and, I think, underestimated medium.
Polymer clay is great to work with. It is easily sculpted, and fantastic designs can be made within the clay with the "millefiori" technique. It is a low fire clay, just baked in a toaster oven. But the end result is a hard, resilient, stable product, that can be sanded, drilled, and painted.
I am interested in all different styles of art, but, in particular, Mexican folk art. My favorite projects are my skeleton, Day of the Dead inspired sculptures. I love the old characters, La Catrina, El Catrin, La Sirena, etc., and enjoy making my own versions of these skeletons, as well as my own skeleton characters.
I am always happy to hear from you, and I enjoy doing commission work, so if you have a character in mind, drop me a note!
