My Life as a Collector
Welcome to the World of Cobblecat
You may notice that I sell an eclectic mixture of things. Within one auction, one may find objects representative of tasteful design, kitsch, girly girl, "serious antiques", paper memorabilia (my personal penchant) and sweet old-time nostalgia. I love it all. I believe that objects have energy and what we surround ourselves with can change the context of our minds. My personal collections are wide and varied, but I do not live with clutter. My home decor is an ever changing canvas because I often live with my favorite "found" things before I sell them. I'm into good modern design, 50's kitsch, vintage clothing, midcentury Italian pottery, kitty cats and old magazines and on and on and on.How I Began.
Collecting is in my DNA. As a child my weekends were spent with my parents at auctions, tag sales and antique shops. My father is a serious antique car collector who taught me the love of refurbishing old things to make them "live" again; likewise, my mother was haunting thrift stores before it was in vogue. Mom would come home with a "small treasure which would lead to a revamping of the whole house! I view selling old things as my way of recycling. I enjoy making people happy with the things I have found. I began my own life as a collector while in my early twenties.During my hippie days, I lived in the bottom half of an old house. After bills were paid, I had twenty dollars a week of "mad" money. I could not afford the new things in the stores, and for the most part I didn't even want them. In a word, the new stuff was BORING. I filled my apartment with wonderful objects I found at flea markets and thrift stores. Those were the days when Fiestaware was easily found at a Goodwill store for 75 cents. I am highest when I am out hunting whether it be at a yard sale, a thrift store, an estate sale or flea market. The current interest in the collection of 60's and 70's items takes me back to those early days. It's a real pleasure to turn on the younger generation to the cool stuff I love.
