In 1973, I had the opportunity along with my friend Norb
Donegan to start an aerial photography business. We both chose three names
for the company and threw them in a hat. We drew Air Pix Aerial Photography out
of the hat. Times changed and Norb went on to fly Lear Jets. I decided to keep the business alive
as a partnership with my wife Betty. Aerial
photography wasn't the only game in town so I changed the name to Air Pix
Aviation Photography. I had accumulated lots of 35mm airliner slides over the years and put the slides in play as the first Air Pix Aviation Photography catalog. In
the catalog, I sold prints from these slides to collectors worldwide.
After several years, it became evident the catalog was no longer viable because I was unable to keep pricing at a level my customers could afford.
My friend Don Nippert brought the Photo Business Card
idea to me and it's been a fun ride ever since. Photo Business cards are still the ruling part of my business.
Visit the Air Pix Website to learn
more. I still do
aerial and Air to Air photography, but mostly on a word of mouth referral basis.
In 2004, when the world started turning digital, I
decided to get on the plane. I had accumulated thousands of 35mm slides for
over 30 years and I was already scanning my slides to digital images. It was time to
share this accumulation with slide collectors all over the world and eBay was
the vehicle. Right now I'm selling the entire Air Pix Aviation Photos
accumulation of original aircraft slides. These slides are over 99% Kodachrome 25 or 64.
Air Pix maintains the copyright for all slides sold whether in my name or the name of the other photographers. Slides purchased and published must always credit the photographer as noted on each slide.
I have carefully labeled all of them. Make sure the photographer is credited
anytime you publish. It's the right thing to do.
As time goes on, I plan to offer
compilations of these scanned images for sale on CD's. Stay tuned for
this announcement.
I retired from
USAIRWAYS on
May 1st, 1999 after giving them 35 and a half years of my life. I loved my job and my career, but things were starting to
deteriorate in the business and I was turning 55. It was time to go. Air Pix
became my passion. Right now though, check out the original slides I'm selling
and occasionally you'll see timetables and other airline collectibles. Thanks
for visiting. Sales end every Thursday evening and new sales start immediately
so put Thursday on your calendar to visit with coldspringcharlie right here on
eBay.
