Hi, I'm Connie,  and I'm..........a rockhound, and proud owner of Sandy's Rock Shop in beautiful Lake County California.  I'm also a member and secretary/treasurer of the Lake County Rockhounds.  Everything in my world revolves around rocks, gems, minerals, and lots and lots of DIRT!!  LOL  Really folks being a rockhound is alot of fun,  in fact it is a tradition!  My family and I travel alot, collecting specimens almost everywhere we go. My grandaughter, who is almost 4,  did her first opal diggin this year.  She loves her pretty rock collection. Even our dogs get into the action, although I must admit, they spend most of their time "supervising"  our efforts,  usually from a nice cool, shady spot! LOL

 

 

We started this year off in Quartzsite Arizona,  volunteering the Bonanza Opal Mines booth,  and doing a little shopping for rough materials.  Quartzsite is a rockhounds heaven!  This year I saw things I have never seen befor,  and met lots of other  rock lovers like me.

We made several trips to Bonanza Opal Mine, as we are shareholders there.  I love the Virgin Valley in Nevada,  and being able to dig beautiful fire opals,  is icing on the cake.  ATV trips into the desert on our "off"time is a blast as well.  And there is always a great cast of characters on hand,  to share a beer,  an oapl story or two,  and those wonderful Virgin Valley sunsets!   I invite every rockhound to come out and try it

We did sunstones in Oregon,  and collected various basalts,  pumice,  thundereggs,  and obsidian as well.  We found a beautiful lake, Davis Lake, it is an eagle sanctuary for several months of the year, and off limits to the public from Jan 1 through Aug 31,  while the eagles nest and raise their young.  We spend some time at Diamond Lake,  witnessing a mass spider migration one night while we were there.  We also toured Crater Lake.  WOW!!!  What a beautifully awsome place!  No picture can ever capture the color of that lake.  Everyone should go there at least once.
