History
I am Jose Luis Cisneros, a silversmith based in Taxco, Mexico. Jose I learned to work the silver from my family; my father worked for William Spratling in the 1950s and 60s and I and my brothers learned silver making basics at a young age. As an adult, I took jewelry making classes in California and North Carolina. We make our designs from start to finish; starting from the grains of pure silver.
Welcome to the Workshop
We would like to give an overview of our workshop, the machines we use and some of the techniques employed. The photo below is of melting silver. We melt pure silver with copper to create a .925 alloy. The silver can then be poured into a cast to make a long silver bar or a thick silver sheet. The bar is then passed through a machine that stretches it long and thin until we have silver wire. The silver sheet is passed through a roller mill that flattens and lengthens it. The silver sheet and silver wire are the two basic materials we use to make most of our designs.

Our dream
Our dream is to share our designs with the world, to continue producing and to sell directly to the public. Thanks for making that possible! We have retired from producing for wholesalers here in Taxco, wholesalers who then sell to other wholesalers who transport the goods to USA for resale to galleries…the items may pass through 3, 4, or up to 5 middlemen before reaching you! We are proud to offer you quality jewelry direct from the workshop. Also, we welcome you to tour our workshop in Taxco, Mexico. If you would like to plan a visit, please contact us at our email address cotoliro@hotmail.com.
