Crane's Country Store
10675 Old Hwy 40 Williamsburg, MO 63388 573-254-3311 866-254-3311 Store hours 8 AM to 6PM Mon-Sat
How many times have we all missed this "little bit of history" as we passed the Williamsburg junction on Interstate 70 to or from our daily activities. This locally owned "Country Store" has provided local residents most all they need to sustain their daily life style. For over 75 years some member of the Crane family has opened the doors to this historic building, ready to serve the needs of the public.
Built in 1898, along the Boone's Lick Trail at Mineola, this store began it's history as the Harrison and Crane Store. A short time later Benjamin Rush Crane bought that store and renamed it B. R. Crane and sons. In 1920 Sam Crane took ownership of the store and named it Crane and Sons. Today it is owned and operated by Joe Crane and his son David. They still carry on the tradition of day to day operations of a true general store atmosphere. Although additions have been made to the store to accommodate all the new product lines, the store remains one of the few "True General Stores" left in the country. If you are into history, you have to make this a "must see" on your next family outings.
From the time you enter the store on a cold winter's day and smell the wood burning stove used to provide warmth, you know you are traveling back in time. Back to a time when things were much simpler. Back to a time when neighbors took time to talk to each other and not just say, "Good to see ya. Man, I gotta go. I'm late for work".
One of the Crane's customer favorites is their $1.00 sandwich deal. "One meat, One cheese, One dollar. Some Saturday's they will make over 200 sandwiches. What a deal!
As popular as the dollar sandwiches are, that really not what brings people to Crane. Locals come because the store carries a little bit of everything. Others come to see the collections of antiques perched above shelves and hanging from the ceiling. Mostly, though, customers come for men work boots and clothing.
Crane has found a niche that keeps it a thriving business in today's tough market. Crane's store continues to provide traditional country store items like everything from eggs and milk to nuts and bolts to farm gates and cattle troughs but the store bread and butter and mainstay is Carhartt clothes and Wolverine boots. This little out of the way store has sold more Carhartt clothing than any other store in Missouri. Go figure. Just goes to show what good ole friendly atmosphere will do for business. Until recently, they did not even rely on radio or media advertising, Just word of mouth.
David told us that the Carhartt company wanted to use his store to further promote their line of clothing. They brought in a sales team and a fancy display trailer for the promotion. They provided a live radio broadcast for the event and the 4-H club sold pies in front of the store. They even provided free gifts to all Carhartt buyer's. We are proud of our alliance with Carhartt and carry almost every item they have. If you can't find what you are looking for elsewhere, chances are we will have it and in your size.

Clothing not your thing? Well, Crane's has plenty of antiques to peak your interest. From one of the best arrow head collections in the state
to old time lanterns, dolls and other keep sakes.

Crane's also carries these quality name brand products.

Crane's is proud of their "General Store Atmosphere and Larger than Department Store Selection." Add the fact they sell at "Discount Store Pricing" and you have one heck of a store. All this makes the trip to Cranes General Store a pleasure and not just a shopping spree. Next time you need outdoors clothing, make it a trip to Crane's General Store, not one of the "Mart's".
