Living As An Artist
When I start to fall asleep at night, I see paintings that my hand is doing without struggle, without restraint with every shape and color, highlight and shadow falling in just the right place. The next day the canvas is there - blank and empty. The cards, canvas or paper stare back at me without a hint of what will be there when I done. And then, something happens and the luxurious textures of color appear - flowing, structuring in ways Ie never seen before. Ie done hundreds, maybe even thousands of pieces in the course of my life, and each time is new, different, a vibrant struggle with what it will become.
About The Artist
About the artist, Cricket Diane C. Phillips -
Inspired by the things around me, I have been painting and showing my work at shows for thirty- five years. I love color and exploring different styles to interpret them in my own way. Usually, I work in series - doing thirty to forty pieces along a similar style or technique to understand it and master it.
My first work sold when I was seven years old and the first time my work appeared in a show was in California at the age of thirteen. I sold one piece during that show and my sister sold two. That was at a show of my mother artwork which was one of many where we added a few pieces of our work to those she was showing. Ie sold many paintings, murals, miniature sculptures, drawings and hand-crafted designs over the years. Ie shown my work at one-person shows, art shows and festivals, juried shows, on the internet and individually to people who are collecting my work.
