Thanks for wanting to know more about me. Although trained in physics, I was employed for 35 years primarily as a software developer and computer scientist, for a while at a couple of small companies (Decision Graphics, Inc. and Geotronics Corp.) but mostly for the US Army (Army Security Agency, Ballistic Research Laboratory, Army Research Laboratory). I retired at the end of September, 2008, but still work part-time at ARL as a voluntary Emeritus Corps member. I continue to participate in C standardization. My main recreations are advanced and challenge square dancing, and restoration of antique computers.
I became interested in saving old computer system software when I found that "industry standard" 9-track magtape drives have become nearly extinct, as have many other media such as paper tape, removable disks, 8-inch floppies, and Hollerith cards, also unique devices such as stroke-refresh displays and AT&T/Teletype 5620/630 programmable terminals. This has led to my hobby of restoring old computers and devices and preserving system software for posterity. (I'm mainly interested in the CDC 1700 and DEC PDP-11 families.) I hope to eventually make available a software simulation of the CDC 1700, along with system software. Some day I will be looking for good homes for my restored systems. eBay has been very helpful to me in pursuing this hobby.
