I'm Dave Johnson, (the daj) and I've been married to Linda, (the lej) for 40 years. We've lived in the same house in Lorain county, Ohio for the last 38 years. We've got two kids, both married, and four grandchildren. We've got a friendly mutt for a dog and a lazy, thieving, but good-natured cat.
Although we've been registered, shopping and buying on eBay since 1999, we've only been selling on eBay for the past three years.
The main reason we decided to start listing is that we're retired and we have to pay for our own medical insurance. We're hoping to offset at least part of that cost through our eBay sales.
Secondly, we've got too much stuff. We've always loved estate sales, auctions, antique shops, etc. (It's really amazing how quickly you can clutter up a house that you thought was going to be empty after the kids moved out.) We aquired all our stuff because we liked it and now we figured that other people might like it too. And so far that's proven to be correct since the response to our listings has been gratifying.
I'm mainly responsible for the photography and writing the listings and Linda does inventory control, bookkeeping, and assists with the shipping. Since old habits are hard to break, we still shop here, there and everywhere for "new" treasures.
We've both always liked the "doing business on a handshake" atmosphere of eBay. Some degree of mutual trust is required if you're going to be either a buyer or a seller on eBay. Not that we're so naive as to think that dishonest people don't pass through, but they don't last.
Personally, I've always been irritated by fuzzy pictures and/or fuzzy descriptions in listings, both usually more the result of laziness rather than dishonesty. We've tried to keep our listings as clear as we possibly can.
We're not out to get rich on eBay. Our goal is to run a successful and scrupulously honest part-time business and have some fun while we're doing it.
Thanks for looking!
