This past summer has brought the bad economic crises to my door steps. I've become unemployed twice in 4 months. The last two businesses I worked at both went under. When I found myself unemployed for the second time I went to my good friend and together we came up with an idea to turn an unused room at her frame shop into an art classroom. She had recently laid off three employees and was needing help as well. So we came up with a plan for me to work twenty hours a month in trade for the rent space on the classroom. My students love the new space and were excited to help put it together. I am now doing what I love best, creating and teaching art.

My new classroom is a great space to teach and create art.

All my life I have been surrounded with art. I was most fortunate to be born into a very talented family. I literally grew up in an art gallery. My parents John and Lola Owen owned and operated Lakeside Gallery on the north shore of Lake Tahoe From 1976 until the first of November 2008. They were forced to close due to the down ward slump of Tahoe's hard economic times. They were the corner stone of the Art world in Lake Tahoe and will be greatly missed by that community.
