Hello, I'm Dawn Devine aka Davina and I've devoted my life to my twin loves of Middle Eastern belly dance and costume construction and design. I am the author of several books on designing and making belly dance wear, including Costuming from the Hip, From Turban to Toe Ring, and Bedlah, Baubles and Beads. My most popular book, Embellished Bras, is devoted strictly to the design and construction of bras. I've established my store, Davina's Bellydance'O'Rama here on e-bay to sell my books, patterns and other dance related prodcuts. If you buy one remind me to dedicate it and sign it!
I began studying costume design at Mesa College in San Diego, CA and then opened my business, Devine's Designs Custom Clothing, specializing in Victorian reproductions, custom formal wear and bridal couture. I earned my BA in Visual Arts/ Theatre from UCSD, working on my two loves of costume design and costume history. During my studies, I worked several seasons in the costume shop of the Tony award winning La Jolla Playhouse. I then went on to do my master's work at UC Davis in the departments of Art History and Design. Now I travel extensively, attending dance events, conventions, fairs and festivals selling my books, performing and teaching both costume and dance workshops. I currently reside in the Bay Area and am working on a series of new publictions.
