I am a self-professed mineral fanatic...period. I love looking at minerals; collecting minerals in the field; reading about minerals and localities and personalities; and I love buying and selling minerals; and I love talking about minerals. My poor wife!
Ten years ago, I would have bet my right arm that I would never sell off my collection. Had I made that bet, I would be typing this one-handed! It has been a slow and gradual evolution from collector to part-time dealer...and it has been relatively painless, to my surprise.
My mineral interests have always been all over the map, with a focus on aesthetics. I've collected rarities and tried to build a species collection. I've tried to build worldwide barite and calcite collections. I'm fascinated by casts, epimorphs and pseudomorphs....and dark iron and manganese minerals...and minerals with old labels...old New England pieces and obscure locality specimens. I just can't get enough!
I haven't bought a rock for myself in at least 8 years! Had you known me 15 years ago, this fact would be mind-shattering! I've found that I no longer 'have to have' things and have learned that I derive an equal but different pleasure by providing other collectors with quality specimens. Your approval and positive feedback is my ultimate goal.
I have borrowed my philosophy on mineral dealing from many sources, including dealers that I trusted as a collector, like Ross Lillie and Dan Weinrich...George Robinson and Scott and Ann Williams among others. More importantly, I strive to abide by the blueprint of fairness, honesty, integrity and trust that was instilled within me by my late parents. With them in mind, I strive to protect my name and reputation...they would expect no less.
My mission is to provide quality specimens at fair prices, with superior service and an ultimate satisfaction guarantee. I don't want anyone to keep a specimen that doesn't fit their needs or requirements for ANY reason....and I'll pay the return postage as well.
I regret to find a good deal of fraud, not only on eBay but at mineral shows and on websites. Mistakes are made on identifications and localities...this is understood. But there are a fair number of unsavory merchants that make bogus claims like "mint conditon" or "museum piece" or "extremely rare." I invite you to keep track of my auctions and pledge to offer accurate descriptions and photos and to provide the most complete locality information possible. No frills, no gimmicks, no hassles and no fine print.
Finally, I have a full-time job and my fledgling mineral business (I do local shows, the NM Mineral Symposium, mail order to established customers, and am open by appointment) is not a main source of income. As a result, I have little overhead and buy a good portion of my specimens direct from importers and can afford to keep my prices lower than almost anyone else. My retail shows and my eBay gig are a labor of love...I'll talk all day about minerals if you let me! In short, I'm a mineral fanatic that simply wants to keep the ball rolling and am constantly seeking new and old material to offer on eBay and at my shows.
Thanks for looking!
Keeping my nose to the limestone,
Dana
