THE LINEN DIVA ~ doverhilldiva on eBay~ tells you much of who I am. Divas are demanding, discerning and pampered. Only the best.
The face of Linen Diva ~ great grandmother Elizabeth, circa 1900 ~ half French, half English, laid the groundwork. From her English side I learned the art of understated elegance ~ fine bone china, gleaming silver, all on snowy, silky linen damask. From her French, I learned the the value of fantasy ~ gossamer laces, exquisite embroidery, glimmering gilding ~ and whimsy.
Supplementing my legacy, I'm a 40+ year collector. As a retired journalist, for 12 years I've shared my finds through eBay's auctions and other venues.
I hunt the sales of old St. Louis, once the country's third largest city, rich during the height of Victoria's years and host to the 1904 World's Fair and Olympics. My stock comes from family treasures left behind, from women who bought on their Grand Tour of Europe, from old French families' trousseaux of English and European damasks and linens, from Italian brides' laces and embroideries.
The heart of my collection are fine linen damasks ~ Irish, French and Italian. The heft, the silky feel like water over your hands, the coolness, the coquettish ever-changing patterns are my passion. You will find only the best here.
I sell only enough to fund my collecting. Therefore, I buy with an eye to keep. So when you buy, you know I've offered the best that I can find, the most pristine, the most unique and the truly marvelous. And, sometimes, the whimsical.

The way I sell
Since I sell the very best, I do my very best to present it to you. Some pieces, such as fragile laces or antique items that have remained unused, sometimes with original tags, I will send just the way I found them. Most pieces I will launder as mildly as possible and press. I will never send items starched. Linens should not be stored starched. Sometimes starch will attract critters. Most times it will age, putting undue stress on the fabric. If buyers prefer starched linens, it is an easy task to spray them and do a touch up pressing.
HANDLING ~ The final laundering and pressing I do just before shipping. This ensures your linens will not have transfer odors from unwashed linens I keep in the same facility. This necessitates a handling time of up to two days after payment.
SHIPPING ~ Always the best way possible, acid free tissue, bubble wrap or solid foam, whatever it takes. There is never a packing or handling charge. That is on us. Buyers pay only the actual shipping and insurance.
RETURNS ~ I accept returns always if I have inadvertently misrepresented the item. I accept them SOMETIMES if a buyer just doesn't like what they bought. In the first case, I refund shipping also. In the second case, I only refund the purchase price. That includes people who don't understand there is a difference between antiques and Macy's. Buyers MUST contact me within three days of receiving their items and the items must not be tampered with in any way, laundered, used, or the like.
