Whence Doc's Crocks?

Welcome to my ABOUT ME page. Like you, I am a stoneware enthusiast. I have searched for stoneware since I was 8 years old when my grandmother promised me as an inheritance a 1 gallon WHITES UTICA Stoneware jar with a parrot on a stump that had been in my family since its original purchase about 1870 (not a bad beginning!). I still have that jar along with many others. As I searched for stoneware at auctions, shows, garage sales, and the like over the past 45 years, I amassed a large collection. These pieces became the basis for Doc's Crocks which premiered on ebay in January 1999. I am always buying more stoneware to offer my new customers and now am stocking the shelves of my EBAY STORE and my website, www.docscrocks.com, as well.

Why Stoneware?

Of all the antiques I have collected in my life, stoneware is the most exciting. The variety is endless. I am always finding new pieces with designs that I have never seen. Not only that, but stoneware is beautiful to look at and creates a warm, friendly feeling in any room it decorates. Better yet, when the stockmarket went down, stoneware did not! Currently I am collecting blue and white spongeware. Yes, I know that market is down, but thus there are a lot of buying opportunities at reasonable prices. It is not easy to get more "blue for the buck" than spongeware!

Honesty Above All

As a born-again Christian, a United Methodist minister, and a Professor of New Testament Studies at Malone University in Canton Ohio, I promise my customers that all my dealings are honest. The Lord wants it no other way. Every effort is made to describe items fairly and price them according to the market. I will take a loss before I will deceive anyone. When I make an honest mistake, I am quick to offer full refund. The goal is repeat and satisfied customers who are buiding their collections. My feedback attests to many customers coming back time and time again.

The only negative feedback that I have as a seller is from a man who just gave it without making his dissatisfaction known to me first so I that I could remedy it and then came back and bought other items under his wife's name just to leave more negative feedback! My only negative feedback as a buyer is from a man who sold me a fake for $700 and then refused to refund any of the purchase price. I try to treat people right even if sometimes they don't reciprocate or follow the ethics of Jesus Christ.

A Heads Up

One current trend in stoneware that I am seeing are repairs. Many repairs. This is fine if you know about it and don't mind, but I see them on ebay and the seller is not making it known. If you suspect repair, put a bit of acetone on a rag and gently rub the border of the repair. If paint starts coming off, you know.

Having Fun

Not only is Doc's Crocks fun, but I have gotten to know some very fine people along the way. The stoneware collecting community is a great bunch of guys and gals! Some I see in person and others I know only via the internet, but they provide some great fellowship. Life is better for them being part of it!
