Vinyl Application Instructions

All surfaces are considered dirty and must be cleaned prior to the application of vinyl. Cleaners such as Windex are acceptable; however, we recommend a 2 to 1 mixture of water and isopropyl alcohol and if that is not available then a small amount of pure liquid soap added to a spray bottle of water will work too. Wipe the surface dry with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. Air and surface temperature must be above 55 degrees Fahrenheit for the application of the decal.

Apply the vinyl using the following steps:

NOTE: It is recommended that a novice installer have a helper present to ensure there are no problems. It is not a requirement however but will help insure a quality installation.

Small to Medium Decal instrustions.

1. Measure and mark the area you wish to apply your vinyl using a water-soluble pencil. (Using caution in this step will help assure a level application.) Once you have the overall area defined and marked you should have a good idea as to where the upper right and left corners of the decal should be placed. At this time take your decal (paper and all) and tape the right upper corner of it to your predetermined area. Have your assistant hold the upper left corner of the decal in place while you stand back a few feet and look at it. If you like its placement move on to step 2

2. Tape one end of the decal to the surface with masking tape. We recommend taping the left hand edge of the decal down with masking tape. Like a hindge. On Large decals we suggest applying a strip of tape in the middle and appling one half the decal and then the other. With large decals peel one half back and using an xacto knive remove one half of the wax paper backing and apply that half of the decal and then do the other half.

3. Now, reach under the decal and start peeling the under layer off, starting from the taped end. As you peel the under layer off, allow your second hand or squeegee (a credit card or a stiff piece of cardboard will also work well) to follow the crease in the under layer (you should be applying pressure to the decal where the under layer is freshly peeled off). Be sure to watch out so that the decal doesn't come off with the under layer. If it does, work backwards and try peeling it at a sharper angle.

 

4. Use a squeegee back and forth across the decal (while the carrier tape is still covering it). This will help insure the decal will stay on its surface while you peel up the carrier tape.

 

6. It is a good Idea to wait just a couple of minutes before you remove the application tape. This allows the decal to adhear and will prevent the decal from trying to come up. Once it is adhering to the surface squeegee the entire decal a second time. Then, carefully peel the tape off the entire decal.

 

7. It is common for they're to be some small bubbles throughout the decal. These bubbles will leave by themselves within a few weeks. If you have any major bubbles you can eliminate them by carefully heating the area with a hair dryer or heat gun, and then puncturing them with a needle and applying pressure with your thumb.

NOTE: You can do more damage than good by chasing the smaller bubbles. They will leave by themselves as the vinyl breathes and the application fluid evaporates.

Tips and Tricks: Due to time and the environment it may be necessary to re-attach to transfer tape to the decal. Just use a thick card or squeegee (credit card will work) and press firmly across the top of the entire decal. Then slowly remove the paper from the back of the decal. If you run across some stubborn areas repeat this step.

Decal Sticker and Skin Removal:

Step 1: Preparing: there are many ways to remove vinyl lettering. We have found that what is described below works for most situations. You will need the following: Hair Dryer or Heat Gun Chisel Adhesive Remover or Rubbing Alcohol

Step 2: Heat Surface: Warm a small section of the vinyl with your heating tool. Do NOT over heat because this may ruin the material your vinyl is attached to.

Step 3: Chisel and Pull Slide a chisel under the vinyl on an edge that has been heated. You want to loosen a section of the vinyl so that you are able to pull it up with your fingers. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the vinyl is completely removed.

Step 4: Remove Adhesive After the vinyl has been removed; there may be some adhesive residue on the surface. Using either adhesive remover or rubbing alcohol pour a small amount over the area. Within 40 seconds the adhesive should break up. With a rag rub the adhesive until it has been removed.

Warning: Adhesive removal should not be applies on some surfaces. It may cause discoloration or damage the surface. If you’re still having trouble removing adhesive residue, warm it with a heat gun or hair dry and apply shipping tape over the surface and rub firmly. Then pull that off slowly. This should get the remaining adhesive off. (Repeat if necessary)
