Born in the Wrong Era
The OLDe BRiCk HOuSE

My creations are simple and are all generally hand sewn..no sewing machine here, I try my best to make the pieces out of antique textiles, because it is a way of letting evrryone touch a piece of history. They also know I am a STICKLER for well worn textiles and believe that everyone in the world should live as simple as they can. I am a firm believer in not destroying these wonderful old quilts that I often see cut into quarters and sold for a profit..I buy them and sit in amazement of the patterns and colors used, but sadly they no longer are able to tell the story about the thousands of tiny stitches that their maker put into them, or how many fabrics used were from memorable occassions in their mediocre life. I try and influence others to not forget our past craftsmen and work with alot of mediums.I love anything of age and have collected antique little treasures since the age of 13. It was then I purchased a signed Flemish Art box, little did I know that it was important for it to be signed ,but it was important to me because it gave it history. The artwork and signature on that box could easily take you back to a most precious time, when husbands or loved ones made you trinkets as tokens of their affection. Even though the women of that era worked in every aspect of their daily lives, I am sure they all fell asleep with the grace of God near them. I often wish for that inner peace, and try to live the simple life in our 1864 brick farmhouse, just one wish of mine, to be that first family that lived here in 1865 and to be able to walk on the freshly laid red oak floors. We still heat with wood and coal, and now 4 of the eight bedrooms are complete, 4 of the 21 windows have been replaced, and when all are new I will miss  looking out onto the vast woods thru my wavy glass, bubbled windows. My soul is with the house, even after only being here for 12 years.

I have always believed in the old art forms or early works, whether it is paper cutting, stencilling, stitching.I love to do wall murals in the old form and recently in the past yera have created many handsewn rag dolls. I usually have too many ideas and need another set of hands to get it all done.

My SiTeS

Description

I live a simple life in Ohio..not far from the shores of Lake Erie..it is beginning to look a little more sparkling blue...and the scenery farther north of me is somewhat that I would imagine a little fishing town on mass. is...quaint..and charming.. My home ..built in 1863-64 is of solid brick..said to have been made from the soils in the back wood..many rooms when we moved in..14..and not many walls can be moved as we have solid brick walls also..Anyone that knows me personally thinks sometimes I was born 100 years too soon..and I often would like to go back and see what it was like the first day the family moved into our home..with satin clean red oak floors..and shutters on each freshly painted window &.rolled glass panes on each. So this home keeps me grounded in an early era..and I started sewing at a very young age..watercolors..tole painting..candlewicking..papercutting..I think I have tried it all..but rug hooking. I love to purchase well ~ worn and torn ~ early textiles and make new memories out of them..if it be an old wool quilt..or one made from fancy ball gowns ..I hate to see anything of old thrown by the wayside.. I love making what I call make-do dolls..so many made today look to perfect with matching shoe and all..that wasn't how the early stitchers did it..they used what they had..so if my dolls look a little rough..let's say naive..that's the way they are supposed to look. Most of my hand mades are hand sewn..and you can find my work many places online...please go to www.downthehandmadepathmarketplace.com ,, and go to Artists~ A to Z....I am listed under Simply Eat Crow....these listings by Artists.. are all HANDMADE ..no IMPORTS..so lets all be kind..budgets are tight..support American Hand mades
tis the gift to be simple....tis the gift to be free many..... soo many blessings..Terri

All Early Works are made lovingly by myself, each one never the same, right here in Ohio. Most generally hand sewn never glued.I thrive on trying to use as much antique or authentic textiles in some of my smalls. I like to remember when I am making these smalls how lucky we are to drive(not horse back)to our nearest needs store for that just right print or color of fabric,to have more than an oil lantern to sew by,and something other than straw, sawdust, or cow dung to stuff or goods with...be one with your GOD while you live your simple life..AMEN,, I am a proud member of TDIPT ,a rather wonderful group of early look and primitive artisans,, enter these letters in your search box for all our wares...please ask about my tour of my old BRiCK HouSE on picture trail and my new blog... I am always willing to combine shipping and will create custom work if asked per Ebays policies. I encourage questions on size, color, anything before bidding. I am proud of my ebay feedback so let's have no issues arise. Please "newbies" remember that once you bid it is a final contract and often bids are high..you are responsible for paying and then keeping your item after you receive it. The sweet bay I use is from a large spice company and they give me no guarantee that they will ship perfect leaves..it does not happen. My garlands are primitive, therefore the leaves will be split, chipped, and a few brown spots now and then.. my textiles I use are sometimes from 1870 or earlier, there could be worn spots, spots and discoloration, I age all my goods with SAFE materials...if you don't like the look ...please don't bid... and kindly ask questions if unsure....many... many blessings,Terri The "Simples in a Simple Sense" , "Good Farm Wife Brande".. and body spray types are all protected titles that I use for my body spray line and pattern line...my custom labels are also protected...they come signed and dated...belonging to Terri Duskin of Eat Crow Primitives 2008..
