Getting Started

Your SIM card will already be active when you receive it. Your mobile phone number and PIN will be printed on the enclosed letter, and will be printed on the enclosed plastic card (similar to credit card size). Please read the letter and all User Guides carefully before using the product. Then be sure to take the plastic card, letter and User Guides with you on your trip, and keep them in a safe place. When you receive your package, you should:

1.       Check that the SIM card is correctly inserted into the phone and is secure.
* The SIM card is already inserted into your phone if you ordered a mobile phone package. If you only ordered a SIM card, then you will need to insert the SIM into your unlocked, GSM tri-band handset. The SIM card usually fits in a slot underneath the battery of the phone. Please check your handset user guide to properly insert the SIM card. The SIM card allows connection to networks, and determines the calling rates you are charged.

2.       Attach the fully charged battery to the phone.

3.       Turn on the phone.
* Refer to your handset user guide on how to turn on your phone.

4.       Enter the 4-digit PIN press OK.
* Your PIN is a four digit code printed on the enclosed plastic card and letter.
* Be sure to enter the PIN carefully. The SIM will be blocked if the PIN is entered incorrectly 3 times in a row. If your SIM is blocked, you will have to contact ekit 24/7 Customer service to unblock it (please see instructions below to contact ekit 24/7 Customer Service). When your phone registers with an available network (approximately 30-120 seconds), it is ready for use.

Making calls

Using a mobile phone with an ekit SIM is a little different than normal calling, but very easy once you try it a couple times.

Important:

  • Always dial the full international phone number
  • After dialing, do not place the phone directly up to your ear, as you will receive a call back. A call back means that your cell phone will begin to ring as if there were an incoming call. The call back happens in a matter of seconds. A call back is how you are saving so much money on international cell phone calls with ekit SIM cards. Hit the send/answer key when your phone starts to ring back. Then wait for your call to be connected.

How to make a call

1.       Enter the + sign (To get the + sign to appear on your screen, hold down the 0/+ key until the + sign appears on your cell phone screen).
Entering the + sign replaces the need to dial the international dialing code for the country you are in (for example, you will not need to dial 00 or 011, etc).

2.       Enter the country code (US country code is 1), area code and phone number you are trying to call.
For example,if you are trying to call your friend in the US, and her US telephone number is 617-123-1234, you would dial +16171231234. Similarly, if you are trying to call your friend in the UK, and her UK phone number is 44 207 943 2772, you would dial +442079432772, etc.

3.       Press the Send/Answer key, and wait for the call back.
Ignore any text shown on your screen such as 'Call Waiting' or 'Call Blocked'. You will be briefly disconnected for 10-30 seconds then you will receive a call back.

4.       Press the Send/Answer key to answer the call.
After 5-15 seconds, your call will be connected. You will hear a voice prompt that tells you to please wait while your call is being connected.

5.       Press the End key to finish the call.

Menu based calling

If you hear a message saying the call cannot be completed, or if the phone does not ring back, it means that you may have to place calls via the menu.

How to make a menu-based call:

1.       Go to the Menu section of your mobile phone.

2.       Select "Services".
* It may be located under "Extras", "Options", "Tools" or similar.

3.       Select "Callback".

4.       Select "Manual number".

5.       Enter the country code (US country code is 1), area code and phone number, then select "OK" or similar.
* Ignore any messaging that may appear on the screen

6.       Your phone will ring back, and your call will be connected.

Receiving calls - plus how family and friends can call with Toll-Free Forwarding (Toll-Free Forwarding is available on the Global Premium SIM and Passport SIM only)

How to receive a call

Just like at home, when your phone rings, simply press the Send/Answer key to answer the call.

Family and friends can call you for free with Toll-Free Forwarding (Global Premium SIM and Passport SIM only)

Your family and friends may think that since you are traveling it will be too difficult and too expensive to call you.
So we've made it easy - and FREE - for family and friends to call you!

Here's what to do:

1.       Give them your mobile phone number - the phone number that starts with +44

2.       They dial our toll-free numbers from a landline or pay phone
Australia - 1-800-261-038
France - 0805-101-177
Germany - 0800-000-6485
US & Canada - 1-866-305-6462
United Kingdom - 0808-234-7418

3.       They listen to the prompts, and enter your mobile number.

4.       Your mobile phone will ring and you will be chatting away - at no cost to your family or friends.

If you do not answer, they can leave you a voicemail or send you a text message with the telephone number for you to call them back.

Please note: Family and friends can only call toll-free from the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany or United Kingdom. With the Global Premium SIM, there is no per-minute surcharge for you to receive the toll-free forwarding call for the first 45 minutes. After the first 45 minutes, you will be charged a 49c/min surcharge. With the Passport SIM, you will be charged a 39c/min surcharge right away (ie, no 45 minutes free without a surcharge). It will still cost your family and friends nothing to call you, because they are dialing a toll-free number. With the Global Premium SIM, it is free to receive calls in France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. With the Passport SIM, it is free to receive calls in over 50 countries. In other countries, there is a per per-minute charge to receive the call. Please check the Global Premium SIM and Passport SIM rates and coverage zone links above.
