My husband FRANCIS and I live in a WORLD HERITAGE SITE. He is third generation "ZULULANDER" the name for this area -HOT, FULL OF WILD ANIMALS AND GAME RESERVES.
He is the chairman of the local provincial "PARKSBOARD" -an organization that works to preserve and conserve the wildlife here. A WORLD HERITAGE SITE is established by an international body and serves the purpose of protecting endangered fauna and flora -there are 3 eco-systems in ZULULAND protected by the system. When animals die, for whatever reason, the PARKSBOARD take them into their possession and sell them to raise money for their daily operations. We buy many of these animals which we then work with, giving the meat to the poor, tanning the skins and manufacturing them into belts, wallets etc.
Francis's grandfather lived here and ran a transport business in the 1920's and '30's using oxen to pull wagons over the mountains. He lived off the land and there are many interesting stories told of him such as having pet baboons -one of which learned how to lead the oxen. His grandfather's brother was one of the first 3 game rangers in the HLUHLUWE GAME RESERVE here -the second biggest game reserve to the KRUGER NATIONAL PARK in South Africa.
Francis has learned his trade making leather items, elephant hair bracelets etc. etc. etc. which has come down in the family over the years. He is meticulous with everything that he does.
