 I've always loved fantay and when my children were young I made toys for them.  I made each of them a marionette and a stage out of cardboard and they made up plays.  Then I made rod puppets of paper mache.  Then came sculpted dolls for us big kids.

What these dolls are about

They start to come into being when I sit down at my table and take some Super Sculpey or ProSculpt in hand and think, do I want to make a 4 to 6 inch doll or maybe a 15 to 19 inch doll or do I just want to make a 6 inch pin. When 6" pin comes to mind I call that a pixy fairy. The 4 to 6 inch fellows are usually fairy folk with wings. If I chose to make a doll 15 inches or more and want it to have wings I call it an elf fairy. If there are no wings I call them elves. I always put a stone in their foreheads, that is their magic symbol that connects them to each other and what makes them an elf person created by Diana. I don't give them a name I just bring them into being. I make each body to go with the head and hands and feet I've created out of the polymer clay. They almosst always have rings on their fingers, even the 4 to 6 inch fellows. The bodies are made of cloth and depending on the doll coming into being will want to be positiioned to stand as well as sit. There is wire in the ones that will stand-alone. Sometimes they are made floppy like a marionette, which makes them so they can be positioned but they can't stand-alone. Depending on the kind of fellow that is coming into being a costume is designed and made. Every Part of each doll is designed and created by Diana. At times props are added, such as a sword, which my son has made for me to use, or I may make a flute out of a reed or dowel or possibly I found a prop that was the right size and bought it to give to one of my fellows. You see I'm always on the look out at second hand stores, discount stores, or wherever for any treasure that will inspire a new fellow to join the rest of my little people. Well there you have it, a little insight on how Diana's elves come into being and a little of how they are made. An added note I now belong to the Professional Doll Makers Aart Guild. Also I attended for the first time the Doll & Teddy Bear Artists' Showcase of New York in Febuary this year 2002.
