I am Tim Lam, the artist of else_studio. It is very happy of me to show the world my digital and hand painted
art. Camera, computer and brush are tools for me. They help me to
create moody, spiritual and heart touching art.
I believe a touching picture is born out of rich knowledge and training as well as perception. You can see my art is completely at ease, both subject and technique. Subject is the result of observation and imagination. Technique is the product of practice. Practice makes perfect.
In the first day of selling on eBay, I try to write AboutMe to tell buyers what is my art. It takes me 4 years to have a better version because I was still exploring the possibility of what art should be. It is very difficult to have a conclusion.
There is a common saying: “ Artist should not stuck to and be restricted by the others. He/she should develop his/her own style.”I am seeking my unique since the first day of learning art in college. In the selling of digital art on eBay, I can make a small profit. It allows me to further study art.
Physically, a painting is paint on canvas/paper, applied by hands with brush or other tools. There are 2 basic elements: paint and brush and 2 main stream of Classical Painting: European and Chinese Painting. European emphasis the paint to form realistic image while Chinese specializes the movement of brushwork.
Impressionist is not satisfied with the European classical painting. They found the color of light and Japanese woodcut print. Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet emphasis color and brush stoke. The movement of painting is recorded on canvas. Paint is no longer to form photographic image. Color brushwork is the focus.
Modern art in Europe, under the influence of Impressionism and African art, comes Cubism, Fauvism, Abstract, Dada, Expressionism, Surrealism, all contributed to break the tradition of European painting.
Post Modern artists in the USA, further develop the European Modern Art. Art can be anything, in any way. It is absolutely free!
However, when everything is art, it implies art has no meaning. Contemporary artists are confusing.
I look back to the 2 basic element of painting: paint and brush. What paint can be? What brushwork can be? I found the way to study: classical European and Chinese painting. When I can do European style, I can paint any photographic images on canvas. Image looks like real. In the other hand, if I can do the Chinese painting, I can handle brush movement perfectly. It takes me 14 years to achieve the target. Now I can show you that I can do it!
