I keep my listings private to protect my buyers and bidders from being targeted by spammers or misdirected. Many customers are members of fan-forums, so private listings also prevent hard-feelings on and off of Ebay when no one knows who is bidding against whom. Also, such forum members receive substantial appreciations when purchasing my items. ;-)
I do not mind if people see my feedback comments, but I do mind when people check my feedback to see what I am buying, let alone discuss it elsewhere on the www. Persons discovered engaging in this behavior or discussing private transactions have been exposed as well as permanently banned from my auctions. "Discretion is the better part of valor..." Luckily, I've come across only a few individuals who are devoid of that quality.
