I've opened an eBay store to help me sell off all sorts of
things from years of accumulation, so I invite you to check out the

SOME TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS WHEN
BIDDING / BUYING:
1. USE BUY-IT-NOW:
Sometimes I offer buy-it-now in the auctions I list. If it's
something you're really interested in or have been looking for, you might
consider using it. Many times the value of bidding has exceeded the
buy-it-now value I had offered, and the winning bidder would have been better
off just using buy-it-now in the first place. And may times people who
waited wrote to me in disappointment to say they missed out when someone else
snapped it up with buy-it-now. I don't use the feature as much as I used
to, because of eBay's crazy fees, but when I do it's worth considering.
2. COMBINE SHIPPING:
I am always happy to combine shipping on multiple auction wins.
As a rule of thumb, auctions must end during the same one week period to qualify
for this. IMPORTANT: You must let me know you intend to bid on more items
and combine shipping. Please don't leave me
guessing. Also, combined shipping is only available if you make a single
payment for all auction items you have won. If you make separate PayPal
payments for each item, I can't offer combined shipping discounts.
3. READ THE AUCTION DESCRIPTION:
Always read the entire auction, including the item description, the section
that describes its condition, and the section on payment and shipping options.
This is important. I work
very hard to present my auctions in a way that makes it easy to understand what
you're bidding on, and I am particularly careful to accurately describe an
item's condition. I will never intentionally misrepresent anything I'm
selling, and if you feel that I have represented something badly, please let me
know so that I can take care of the situation.
4. ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING:
If you have any question at all, please ask before placing your bid.
Although I will always work with you after the auction is completed to make sure
you're satisfied, asking questions beforehand can take care of most issued that
might arise later. I'm happy to answer whatever I can as best I can.
AFTER THE AUCTION IS OVER:
1. MAKE CONTACT:
eBay is good about sending their form e-mails when an auction ends.
These e-mails have the details you need to complete the auction transaction, and
you're welcome to follow through by clicking on the links included. If
you're not sure about anything, just contact me and let me know. Or just
contact me about the auction anyway. But I definitely need some form of
contact. Within a few days after the auction is over, make sure you've
gotten in touch to let me know how you'll be paying and when you'll be paying.
This will help avoid any confusion or delay when the payment does arrive.
2. E-MAIL:
Please don't ask me to e-mail you when your package is mailed out.
There have been times when I've mailed out hundreds of items (usually CDs from
my collection) in a week, and I find that I don't have time to e-mail every
winner and let everyone know that a package is on the way. When I receive
your payment by PayPal, I will get your auction package sent out in the next
mail run (typically the next day or two, although weekends may mean another
day or two), so you should see the package pretty quickly--if you haven't seen
it within one to two weeks, send me an e-mail to check on status so we can see
what's happening. If you mail your payment to me, try to allow from one to two weeks
total for your payment to reach me and my package to reach you, and you're
welcome to write to me after about a week has passed to check on the status.
Whatever form of payment you use, remember to give the postal system time to do
its work, especially during the holiday seasons.
3. EXCHANGE FEEDBACK:
Feedback is critical to a good reputation on eBay, and I've worked
very, very hard to reach my feedback score. The only negatives I've
received were back in the early, early eBay years, before eBay had implemented
its feedback rules, from users who didn't read my auction descriptions. Please, leave positive feedback with
me when you receive your auction item, as long you are satisfied and the item
matches the description of what I listed. If you have any problem at all,
which seldom happens, e-mail me so we can work it out rather than leaving
negative feedback. I will go out of my way to correct any error I
may have made and to make sure you're satisfied. Once you have posted positive feedback, I will gladly
return the favor and post positive feedback for you as well.
4. NOTE: MY METHOD OF POSTAGE
Just as a note, I use Stamps.com to take care of postage. It lets me
print all of my postage at home and then drop packages at the post office.
This helps a lot, as the city I live in (Sammamish) does not have its own post
office, forcing me to drive to a nearby city to drop off packages (not that far
of a distance, but due to poor street layout and traffic, a 20 to 30 minute
drive each way)--or to pay a per-package fee at one of the local "mailbox"
stores, which is just not reasonable. On those occasions where I use
insurance on packages, I use Stamps.com's insurance and not the USPS insurance.
The only real drawbacks to using Stamps.com are added costs of labels, ink and occasional
misprints that use up postage anyway. But it's worth it. I explain
this all to help you understand the labels you see on the package when it
arrives and the method of insurance I use...
SOME TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS WHEN
MAILING PAYMENTS:
1. TYPED OR PRINTED MAILING ADDRESS:
If you mail payment, always include a typed or printed address with your mailed payment. It's not always easy to
decipher poor handwriting (and sometimes an address is not included at all, or
even a description of what the payment is for).
Including a typed mailing address and referencing the auction item, or better yet e-mailing the address in
advance, will great help me to accurately mail your package.
2. PROTECT YOUR PAYMENT:
NEVER indicate on the outside of the
envelope that a payment is enclosed, and definitely DO NOT
indicate the actual amount enclosed. This will increase the odds of
mail theft. Always include the information on the inside only. This
applies mostly to international buyers sending cash or money orders, but it's
good advice for anyone mailing payments.
3. INCLUDE THE AUCTION NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION:
ALWAYS include the item description and auction number with payment.
I may have hundreds of auctions going at one time, so it's often impossible to
determine what a payment is for without this information. Failing to
include this information WILL result in a delay in
shipping the auction item, sometimes more than a month, since it forces me to
use process of elimination to determine what the payment is for. I can't
emphasize enough just how important this is.

First of all, I've been an eBay user since 1997, about a
year into eBay's existence, since before a lot of people even heard of eBay. I've sold thousands of
miscellaneous things on eBay in that
time, and I've bought hundreds of things as well. If you check my
feedback, you'll see that I'm a conscientious eBay user, with more than 6,400
positive comments and a feedback score of more than 4,000.
As you may have noticed from my eBay user name, or my
e-mail address, I'm a Tolkien fan. I consider his works to the best
fiction ever written.
Here's a little biographical information... I'm in my 30s, and
I have been a collector of all sorts of things for most of my life (I refer to
this as PRS, or Pack Rat Syndrome--although I'm actually mildly bipolar and the
inability to throw stuff away is tied in to that). As a result, I have
way too much "stuff"
filling up our home. For eBay, I sift through this stuff and offer it to
other collectors.
My primary collections are music and movies, and the most
common thing I auction on eBay is CDs from my collection. Other collections
I have include:
vintage computer games (including titles by Infocom); role playing
game materials, particularly those pertaining to Middle Earth; Tolkien collectibles;
Sherlock Holmes collectibles; too many books of too many varieties; games (board games, card
games, brainteasers, everything); puzzles (especially Springbok puzzles made by
Hallmark); Wade England porcelain miniatures; Star Wars memorabilia. There are
other odds and ends as well, so you never know what you'll find in my eBay
auction list.
I invite you to drop by my eBay store often and
check out the items I have listed. Thanks for stopping by!
