Have you ever felt like your hobby was so much fun that you wanted to share
it with everybody? You felt as though everyone in the world should be doing what
you are doing. Well, this is the way I feel about stamp collecting.
Black Stamps And Coins was created to help you start a life long hobby of
collecting stamps, coins and first day covers, which I call miniature works of art.
START YOUR COLLECTION TODAY....Its a lot of fun
The first stamp in this collection was issued in 1940 and honors Booker T.
Washington. This stamp was one of thirty-five stamps in the "Famous
American Issue". The second stamp in the collection was also issued in
1940. This three-cent stamp celebrates the 75th anniversary of the
Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. During the next eight years
the Postal Service issued no stamps depicting African Americans. On
January 5, 1948, a magenta colored three-cent stamp of the great agricultural
scientist George Washington Carver was issued.
After another eight year period of no African American related stamps,
the Booker T. Washington Centennial stamp was issued. This stamped
portrayed Washington's log cabin home. On December 15, 1956, a stamp
honoring children was issued. One African American child was among the
eleven children pictured on the stamp. In 1963, a very simple but powerful
design appeared on a stamp. This stamp was called "Emancipation
Proclamation". The design was a broken chain representing freedom from
slavery. These early stamps depicted very powerful messages and represented some
of the great African American leaders and artist during a very turbulent period
in the history of the United States of America. Since 1940, over one
hundred U. S. postage stamps honoring African Americans have been issued.

Black Stamps And Coins also sells the Booker T. Washington half dollar
and the Washington/Carver half dollar. In 1946, the U. S. Treasury issued a
beautiful silver fifty-cent coin to honor the accomplishments of Booker T.
Washington. A total of 200,113 sets of this coin were minted in 1946.
In 1947, 100,017 sets were minted. A total of 8,005 sets were minted in
1948, and 6,004 in 1950. In 1951, 7,004 sets were minted. Each set
contained three coins, one from each of the three U. S. mints.
In 1951, the Treasury issued the Booker T. Washington/George Washington
Carver fifty-cent coin. This coin portrayed images of Washington and
Carver. A total of 10,004 sets were minted in 1951. In 1952, 8,006
sets were minted and in 1953, 8,003 sets. The treasury minted 12,006 sets
in 1954.
First Day Covers (FDCs) are also part of the inventory of Black
Stamps and Coins. A FDC is an envelope which has a postage stamp glued
to it. This stamp is cancelled with the postal service's "First Day of
Issue" cancellation. This special cancellation is only available up to
sixty days after the new stamp is issued. The FDCs I sell all have an artistic
design or picture of the subject of the stamp printed or glued to the left side
of the envelope. Most of the covers in my inventory have colorful
artistic renderings of the famous African Americans who are the subject of the
stamps.
These stamps, coins and first day covers are beautiful and unique
collectors items. I hope you start or add to your collection here. I
want you to be totally satisfied and I guarantee everything I sell!!
