In recent months we have had the opportunity to send some of our old treasures to a politician's family that lost much to Katrina (wiped their home away), we have sold silver service to a diplomat going overseas and to a son who wanted to replace a lost item in his mother's set.
Thanks for your patronage of our eBay sales. Due to some major changes in family living situations etc. etc. (it is all about those years slipping by) we are putting some items our family has enjoyed, we have many little art finds, loads of silver entertaining serveware / flatware, some jewels, even nice kitchen items, all will go on eBay to sell. We did give much to the Salvation Army, Goodwill Industries and the local rescue mission thrift store. We will still have way, way too much (in storage to allow a slow and orderly dispersal), who really needs all these salt, dessert, boullion, gilded egg, orange, grapefruit, coffee, gumbo, oval soup, parfait, tea, chocolate, caviar, sugar -- spoons? (there is still more too! E.G. we found 7 sets of silver tongs in a box in the attic) There really are people who do, and people who still, want great old copper cookware to polish, and pretty stag handled things to hold!
Note about the listings starting price & shipping -
Each person values things differently. Starting bids we set where we think they should be for the object(s), no experts here, not running a real business either. The price we start at can be the ending price... The price at the end of an auction is not open for further negotiation (do you want to pay more because the price of gas went up over the last week?), we list what we must charge for the shipping and handling and rarely include that cost in the listing price. SO, the point is read what we charge for the service of handling and shipping the object(s). When we buy things on eBay and any retail elsewhere, we know that Macy's does not discount the item, because we had to drive 30 miles over there nor will they ship it to us for free, it really has no relevancy on the item price either way. Also, if you have never sold on eBay, please know that the substantial fees are paid on our end and we have to figure that cost into the starting price.
Previous customers have appreciated the quickness of our shipments, that sometimes means someone in our house drives to ship a single item --- hence the handling is a bit of a hassle. We pack things with care too.
Our flat shipping rate covers all packing and handling effort/cost. Ok? So, don't simply think that the Post Office charge is the only cost of shipping and handling! And bid knowing that we disclose it ahead of time and it is in the listing without a surprise etc. We think time = $ and my Post Office always has a line (though great reliable service).
Note about the condition statements in our listings -
Everyone has a different idea on what is "VERY Fine" or really beat-up as in Shabby Chic condition. We try to be clear in our listings with good pictures to show and let the buyer be the judge. We've had people post feedback that is undeserved and others who thought we sold 'em a better item then we listed! Please feel free to ask questions, but know that these estate items were treasured and well cared for - though not "new out of the box" - hence we have estate antiques!
We do want these items we are parting with to be used and enjoyed by others, as much as our family has treasured these objects.
Enjoy your shopping on eBay.
Please review our other listings. Silver - More Gorham Chantilly (other family sets/collections) and very good quality estate things from parents homes, Grandparent's cottage and our attic. Check out our other items and then add us to your favorite sellers, as this year we must empty out a family storage locker of things.
Thanks!
