Since 2002 I have been assembling a large collection of sterling flatware in the Wallace La Reine pattern, and have 403 pieces, all purchased through eBay. I'm pretty much the poster boy for doing it this way. I have 24 placesettings in both Dinner and Luncheon size, along with every serving piece that I can find for a reasonable price. I used to keep track of all the La Reine sales in a price guide, but the 20K limit for guides made it too hard to carry on, but they are still there and still pretty accurate if you want to see what pieces in this pattern go for. Many people have written to say that it is instructive for their patterns as well. The historical record makes clear what the true value of different pieces is, and also makes clear how rare various pieces are. There is also a guide that lists the results of unsuccessful auctions where the price was set too high.
I also created a detailed guide to Buying and Selling Sterling Silver Flatware that is extremely popular, and I get lots of feedback from people who find that they can quickly learn everything that it took me a long time to figure out. I have included the contributions of a number of fellow eBay members in this guide, but I am always willing to include new material that will add to the usefulness of the guide. I have the same problem of being at the limit of 20K characters, so everything that is added in requires an equal reduction of characters from elsewhere in the guide.
