This handmade food is made by me for your American Girl doll.
This food is created to stimulate open-ended play. It looks so real, and each part can be "served" to the doll. Nothing is glued to the plate. The colors, textures, and shapes imitate the real foods that we eat. I have found that kids can get very deeply involved in choosing foods and serving meals to their dolls.
For those birthday parties where all girls bring their own dolls, I have made many sliced cakes, so the dolls can join the people's party. Fancy tea sets and dishes are available in my eBay store too.
Maybe you have noticed that lots of clothes are available for dolls. As for furniture, you can find chairs, but rarely tables. So, what are the dolls supposed to eat? I've provided a large menu of foods, and keep adding new ones. The idea for making foods evolved out of my classes and summer camps "Doll Camp" where kids learn to sew, make food, handbags, weave doll rugs and blankets for the American Girl doll.
I use Sculpey polymer clay to make the foods. The color is not painted on. I blend the colors to match the foods, starting with the set of manufactured colors. Shaping is done with hands and hand tools. No molds are used. To harden the clay, it gets baked at a low temperature in an oven.
Ever since I was a child, which is a long while ago, I've enjoyed miniatures, and things that are small scale. Even the sculptures I make are under 12 inches. Eventually, I'll branch out in the doll foods and make food for barbie sized dolls, and doll houses.
So, go feast your eyes on the large selection in my store, and remember to feed your dolls. Imagine how hungry they get.
