Hi, About 12 years ago, in a small drapery shop I ran into a roll of fabric that was about 2 inches wide, very nice. Huh I said, I think I could make me a rug out of that. That was the beginning of my wonderful experiences making and selling rag rugs and then baskets and accessories..
I have to admit the first rugs were something to smile at , but with practice they began to look the way I wanted them to.
The original thoughts came from the fact that my "Granny" on my Dad's side of the family would rip up old sheets and clothes and make rag rugs. My "Grandma" on my Mother's side was an avid crocheter. So I just put these together and began making the crocheted rag rugs.
At first I gave them away for gifts, etc. and then began to sell at small craft shows.Through the years the shows got larger and larger but I have enjoyed it all. Then "EBAY".
A lot of the fun was going from textile warehouses to search in bins and boxes for the fabric. Oh it was hot and dirty at times but always fun. Since I have accumulated so much fabric and trying to slow down some, I have been offering fabric to you on ebay.
On a serious note: The most rewarding thing is to take a strip of rag fabric, something most people would have no use for,and throw it away, and make a beautiful rug or basket. It brings out the creative force from within, and each piece you make is rewarding. It makes me think of how my Heavenly Father created the world and all that is in it, out of nothing. and saw that it was good.
As a senior, selling my fabric, rugs, and accessories, helps to supplement my income. In a small way, I feel I am perhaps helping others to be interested in, and to carry on this wonderful and almost lost craft.
Thanks to all of you who have helped me in this and I encourage you to keep working at it. If I can help in any way please feel free to email. As time allows I will help all I can.
Sincerely, Frankie Sneed
