Friends and Foundation of the San Francisco Public Library

What We Do

The Friends and Foundation of the SFPL is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for the San Francisco Public Libraries. We operate two stores, Bookbay Bookstore and Bookbay at the Main, our ebay store, and ebay auctions, all of which sell donated used and new books. The proceeds from these sales and from the other fund-raising activities of the organization all go to benefit the programs of the Libraries. Our Bookselling Programs

Bookbay Bookstore
Bookbay is located in Building C at the historic Fort Mason Center on San Francisco Bay, one mile east of the Golden Gate Bridge. Bookbay sells used and selected new books which are donated by the people and businesses of San Francisco. None are library discards. The store hours are 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM seven days a week. We are closed on holidays.

Bookbay at the Main
Bookbay at the Main is located just inside the Grove Street entrance to the San Francisco Main Library. Bookbay at the Main also sells used and selected new books donated by the people and businesses of San Francisco. None are library discards. The store is open during regular Public Library hours which can be found by clicking the San Francisco Library link at the bottom of this page.

Annual Sale
The 41st Annual Book Sale will be held this year from September 28th through October 2nd in the Festival Pavillion at historic Fort Mason Center. Over 200,000 books will be on sale in the largest Friends sale west of the Mississippi. Admission is free Thursday the 29th from 10 AM to 6 PM and Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. There is a member's preview sale Wedneday the 28th from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Parking is Free.

Other Sales Events
We offer other sales events such as our monthly Library Steps sale and quarterly Mini-Sales where all books are $1.00 or less. Click on the Friends and Foundation Link at the bottom of the page for further information.

Online Sales
As you already know if you are reading this page, we also sell used and select new books through our ebay auctions and ebay store.
