My Shop likes to focus on Unique One of a Kind Garments. In a world full of conformity it is refreshing to find something that has been put together with an artistic eye and a soulful spirit. To attain this energy I believe the ingredients in making a garment are just as important as the ingredients that you put into a pot of soup that you will be sharing with your family. Hemp is a plant of great resource. We can get Paper, fabric, building material, food, medicine, clean soil and air if we just give hemp a chance to work its magic. With minimal fertilizers and pesticides hemp also has much more strength and durabilty than its sister cotton. When you purchase hemp clothing you not only get a great piece of fabric but you are HELPING create a world where hemp is used to its full potential. My dream is to one day have my own Hemp farm where my family and I can produce a material that can replace many products that are inferior to hemp. These inferior products not only cost more money but also cost the enviroment many times more in pollution, water requirements, carbon footprints, etc.
When I first started to sew I did everything by hand, it took forever to finish a top and even longer for a pair of pants. Then one day my husband bought me an old Riccar sewing machine and I never stopped till the machine did. But I learned so much on that workhorse. I had many great friends and teachers help me on my journey. To these people I am Forever Grateful. In 1999 I finshed my course at NHI and became a Massage Therapist and Holistic Health Educator at the same time I was pregnant with My son. I was able to support my family with my new career but I just wasnt happy in it and I was still hoping someday I would be able to sell my wares and start up a business of my own. I had been sewing for friends and family and helped start Black Lotus Clothing with one of the girls in my Belly Dance troupe~creating Dance wear. I was also the guest artist on Kendras website www.thecalicokids.com Creating my one of a kind wearable art :) In 2005 I opened up my first etsy shop not really expecting anything, but it turned out to be a great boost to my business. With encouragment from my sales I longed to put even more details into my work and In 2006 I took classes at my local college in costume construction working with the Childrens theater in Oakland. I had one of the best Mentors in the world for a teacher. In 2007 I opened up my first website after much consideration. It is very rewarding to be able to successfully put up my own clothing, see how many hits I got and just to have my own spot on the web to call my own. I draw much of my inspiration from Nature, Love and generally from my life travels. There is so much more to see and do, I feel I am just beginning on this journey. Much Love goes to everyone Dancing, Playin' and Lovin in my handmade clothes, you really do make this possible!
I sew all of my clothing With My Overlock and sewing machine for a professional finish, All of the fabrics I use have been prewashed to prevent shrinkage and bleeding of colors. I use many of my own homegrown herbs and flowers in my herbals but if I didnt grow it, I buy from reputable sources :) I want you to feel WONDERFUL in what I have to offer and if you have any questions feel free to contact me :) Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out my site! YOU make this possible!
