Originally, I created this account to test how/if WebRings are compatible with eBay.
Soon after I found myself doing my mother's bidding, literally! Eventually I'll probably add items to sell, so keep watch.
Until then, if you have any interest in promoting your own eBay "about me page (why not, it's FREE), read on. But first, you will need to get a WebRing User ID (don't worry, it's free!) The rest of the instructions follow below!
eBay profile pages do not permit the inclusion of JavaScript, therefore use of the SSNB is out of the question. Here are several options, choose what works best for you!
- Straight HTML
Acquire individual HTML for each membership and install it on the page. Yes, this takes up space and may slow the page's load time, but it is the only way to PASS the checker using this eBay profile page.
How to Acquire:
- After logging in, click the link in the left column called "Your ring Memberships"
- In the list of memberships on that page, locate the ring.
- Click the title of your site
- Click "Get Navigation Code" in the left column
- Scroll to bottom, click word "here" at end of the HTML information statement
- Copy the code and place it within the text field.
How it Appears:

While this will give you a valid PASS test result, it is important to note that not all RingMasters will accept HTML and may require the SSNB.
Another issue to consider with straight HTML is how it will require updates each time a RingMaster tweaks the code. RingMasters may suspend or terminate memberships if Ring codes are not kept current! Please consider this when selecting a code. Something that includes the SSNB will save you time (not to mention space on your page!)
- Simple HyperLink SSNB
This is nothing more than extracting one URL out of the full SSNB code and making it a link. With this method, you must take care to copy the correct URL and to link to it properly.
How to Acquire:
- After logging in, click the link in the left column called "Your ring Memberships"
- In the list of memberships on that page, locate the ring.
- Click the title of your site
- Click "Get Navigation Code" in the left column
- The code will now appear in a text box on the page
- You'll want to copy the second URL, the one closer to the bottom of the code. It will look similar to this:
http://ss.webring.com/navbar?f=l;y=YOUR_USER_ID;u=URL_U#
I put "f=l" in bold, red font because that is the key to knowing you have copied the right URL. (Do not use the one here, copy it from your own SSNB, so it contains your correct WebRing ID and U#).
- If you create your own HTML, be sure to use the full link coding and make the hyperlink include the word "WebRings"
- If you use the "fill in the blank", put the URL in the "web address" side and "WebRings" in the "name" side.
How it Appears:
See "My Favorite Links" at the bottom of this page, then click the one called "WebRings for this page".
While this will give you a valid PASS-L style link, it is important to note that not all RingMasters will accept PASS-L and may require a full PASS. If the RM prohibits "PASS-L", you cannot use this method.
- Link-to SSNB Table
This is a more visible version of the previous option.
How to Acquire:
- After logging in, click the link in the left column called "Your ring Memberships"
- In the list of memberships on that page, locate the ring.
- Click the title of your site
- Click "Get Navigation Code" in the left column
- The code will now appear in a text box on the page
- You want to copy all HTML between the "noscript" open and closing tags. Copy from the "center" open through the "center" closing tags (unless you do not want the table centered, then omit the centering commands and take only the table).
Paste this in your HTML fields and save.
How it Appears:
This site is a member of WebRing.

While this will give you a valid PASS-L style link, it is important to note that not all RingMasters will accept PASS-L and may require a full PASS. If the RM prohibits "PASS-L", you cannot use this method.
- Externally-hosted SSNB
The only way to get a full PASS from the checker using SSNB is to host the code externally. If you have your own website, great, you can do it yourself. If you do not have a separate website, you can still have an externally-hosted SSNB! See WebRing Hosting Option for assistance with getting your code hosted!
To do your own, simply create a file on your website that contains two things:
- The SSNB for your memberships
- A link to your eBay "about me" page.
This will allow visitors to get to the "about me" page from your WebRing page. This will PASS the checker and fulfill an "SSNB only" requirement. But there is still a need to allow visitors to get back to the navbars.
- If you write your own HTML, simply install a hyperlink back to the page you created and call the clickable link "WebRings".
- If you use the "fill in the blank" page, place the URL to your page in the "Web Address" column and the word "WebRings" in the "Name" column.
This is the only true way to achieve a true PASS test result. So long as you follow the instructions for creating and linking back to the page, there should be no problems using this version on any site.
