page. INSIDE MY HEAD:
I've been on eBay since February 6, 1998, and over 99.99% of my experiences have been positive.
I am committed to acurately describe every thing I sell with pictures that you can actually SEE what you are bidding on. I've had a couple of people sell things to me that were obviously picked out of trash barrels where the sellers had creatively stated "untested", or condition "unknown".
With me, I'll let you know how it works where applicable, and show you as well! (and it won't have come from someone elses trash barrel!)
My Mother and Father raised me to treat people the way I'd like to be treated.
Some people make wild and crazy guesses at shipping amounts. (Like $48 I was charged to ship a 15 pound home movie projector that actually only cost $10.69 to ship UPS!) You won't find that here. Heavier items are shipped by UPS. Most of the time the shipping rate is right on the money. Sometimes its a buck or two over, sometimes a buck or two under. If you're worried about a buck or two, you probably shouldn't be bidding here.
I have recently expanded my auctions to the whole world. This was a new learning experience for me. I have a girl who takes the packages to the post office, stands in line, fills out the paperwork and declarations. I just don't have time with a full time job. So any extra money that ebay's shipping calculator misses the mark by, goes to her. Once it's in the mail system, I have no control over how fast or slow something arrives at it's destination. Please don't get hostile with me when a package gets bogged down at your border. I've seen 1st class mail delivered to a country in 5 days and then I've seen 5 weeks for a similar item to the same country. Your patience is appreciated.
The bottom line is: Packing costs money, Labels cost money, Ink costs money, Tape costs money, my mail girl costs money.. But, making extra money from shipping isn't a practice I engage in.
I use the Post Office and UPS only. FedEx 'mis-delivered' 3 of my packages since 2007 so nothing will ever ship FedEx.
Ebay has changed dramatically since I first signed up in 1998. In the early days, you could leave feedback even if you never had a transaction with the seller you were leaviing feedback for. Then, Ebay got smart and restricted it to only those who actually completed an auction together... Nowadays sellers can only leave positive feedback, and though I used to always leave feedback irregardless of whether I was the buyer or the seller, I have become more cautious. There are those still out there that will wait for their positive feedback, then for no reason other than they were having a bad day and needed to take it out on someone, they turn around and leave negative feedback. So, as a seller, I now evaluate the feedback of the buyer (including the feedback they have left for others), and as a buyer, I reciprocate feedback left for me when I am satisfied. As a buyer, if I receive items that are not as represented, chances are no feedback will be left. As the saying goes.. it is what it is.
Let's face it. We're all here to make money. Some people make their living on eBay. Until I get to that point, I'm here to make some money to buy more eBay stuff myself. Sadly, Of the dozen or personal checks I have accepted, a dozen or so were worth no more than a post-it note and even less where I had to pay my bank returned check fees. So, regretably, no checks. However, listed below are the electronic payments I accept in lieu of a money order. Of course, if you want to send a money order, thats fine too.
International buyers must pay via PAYPAL. The reasons for this are, Paypal calculates the final value from currency to currency, and I don't want to sit on items for weeks on end awaiting a envelope with money, and it protects everyone and keeps everyone honest.
Apparantly, in my selling hiatus (2008) eBay made the decision to not allow money orders listed as a payment option any longer within an auction. As the United States Postal System is a business partner with ebay, I wonder how well that decision sits with the USPS. At my full time employer, (bigger than ebay), I know what would happen if a business partner decided to be a one sided partnership. Don't be surprised if the Post Office yanks ebaypal shipping. I know many of my repeat customers have raised their concerns about whether or not I would still accept their money orders.
I don't understand why people "watch" auctions they intend to bid on. I can't tell you how many emails I've gotten over the years from fellow ebayers after an auction is over complaining that they missed the finish and would I be willing to sell it to them now.. (I have been in eBay's doghouse before, so those requests now get forwarded to eBay SafeHarbor) If they'd only just bid the opening bid, they just might have stole it from all the other watchers.... Unless someone's going be online 24 hours a day, more often than not, those auctions being watched will be lost to others. Ebay has an email system that will remind a watched item is 'ending soon' but it is dreadfully slow and most times, the email comes in when the watcher is away from the pc or after the auction has ended.
What I'm saying here is... If you're going to watch items you really intend to bid on, make sure you know the auction's end time, and where you will be. What I do on items I am serious about is bid at least the minimum. That's how I got a 1/8th scale '32 Ford model, sealed for $9.99 (avg sell price on eBay is $77.) All the other 'watchers' apparently... weren't
