My interests include Astronomy, with a focus on meteoritics; photography, cinematography, and the archaeoastronomical history of ancient Egypt.

I am a Professor of Astronomy (now retired) and Director of the Planetarium at Mount San Antonio College, 1100 N. Grand Avenue (Los Angeles County) Walnut, CA 91789
THE TEACHING METEORITE COLLECTION:
I began collecting meteorites as a student at UCLA in the 60's. I studied METEORITICS under Dr. F. C. Leonard, who was one of the early pioneers in the science we today call METEORITICS, and who inspired my life-long interest. I have been buying, finding, trading, cutting, and etching meteorites since that time. My private collection has grown into a "teaching and museum collection" which I maintain at Mt. San Antonio College for display and study by my Astronomy students. I currently have several hundred specimens representing many different classes of meteorites. A number of unique tektite forms and shatter cones are included in the collection. In 1963 I was fortunate in discovering the LUCERNE VALLEY strewn field, the 20th meteorite 'find' in California, while investigating dry lakes for meteorites. The investigation continues. My latest LV meteorite discovery was on March 30, 1999. From my initial investigation, others have taken up the task of investigating dozens of dry lakes in Western United States. As a result a multitude of new funds have been discovered as well as new science on how the surface of dry lakes reform over time. Lucerne Dry Lake remains the one area where more different falls and classes of meteorites have been found than on any other dry lake.
(h4>My interest in meteoritics and the large number of specimens that I have acquired for study has grown into a retail business selling meteorites with a website at www.meteorite1.com. This accomplishes two purposes: not only does this allow us access to a large number of meteorites for research, study and eventually, in part, sales, but provides an outlet for excess material that may be on hand as well and to provides funding for maintaining the R. N. Hartman Museum Collection, which is, in part, on display at Mt. San Antonio College. Meteorite1.com offers accessories, meteorite books and thin-sections as well, as a service to the general collector.
The interest in membrane suspension boxes by the meteorite collecting community has allowed that part of the business to expand into its own website at www.membranebox.com. Membrane suspension boxes are valuable for both science and industry for the safe transportation and storage of very small or delicate items that cannot be jostled around. In this regard, the box allows both front and back of a specimen to be viewed without having to remove it from the box and handle it. membranebox.com, has grown into a internationally recognized business selling thousands of membrane boxes to industry and the scientific community. Our company is now incorporated in the State of California as R.N. Hartman, Inc.
I am happy to correspond via e-mail.
My meteorite website, features a nice selection of meteorites of all kinds, nicely prepared and at reasonable prices, thin-sections, tektites, shattercones, and impact materials:
