About Me: galleryhewitt( 206Feedback score is 100 to 499) About Me

Born drawing and never stopped. It is a joke in the family that I was born drawing. No flat surface was safe if I could find a crayon or a piece of chalk. I drew on walls, sidewalks, schoolbooks, and anything else that turned up. In school I took whatever art classes were offered. In college I did the Fine Arts curriculum. Since college, I've worked in all phases of art and design. Travel and photography have complemented my art pursuits, as I've been able to bring back study materials, books and artifacts from all over the world. The several thousand slides and photographs I've accumulated are especially useful for digital manipulation, which is something I've come to enjoy as an adjunct to my more-traditional artwork. For years I had a design studio and public relations boutique in Atlanta, consulting with major corporations and winning major professional awards. When I had the urge to focus more on painting and less on design, I began to do shows. Now, I'm turning more to galleries and online presentation, as well as to commissions. I also enjoy teaching and giving demonstrations. Whatever I'm doing, all I've ever wanted to do is to create and to share my pleasure in creation with others.

What art means to me: Art gives me a window into the world. When I create, I stand on one side of the opening, filtering what lies before me through my particular sensibility. When I buy art to add to my own collection or look at art in museums, I look over the shoulders of other artists to see what their windows reveal. For me, as both practitioner and beneficiary of other practitioners, the vocabulary of art enables a depth of communication impossible through any other means.

ART FOR CRITTERS: I am proud to be a member of Art For Critters, "fine artists united to help creatures in need". Several times a month, beginning in February 2008, I will be listing several pieces of art to benefit one or more of their worthwhile animal charities. I'd appreciate it if you'd watch especially for those auctions and, if you'd like to add the art to your collection, be as generous as possible.
